Will Ospreay became one of the hottest acquisitions in pro wrestling when he signed with AEW in February. After months of rumors about his WWE signing upon finishing up in Japan, the “Aerial Assassin” chose the Jacksonville-based company.
Since then, a lot of water went under the bridge but not much has changed regarding his jab at Triple H. Talking to the media after AEW Dynasty, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion revealed that he does not regret his comments and will refrain from taking the low road in the future. But just then he hit another verbal low blow by saying, “I’m f*cking the best wrestler in the world. Don’t need to F with guys below me.”
The 30-year-old Briton also said that he felt he lowered himself with the comments he made previously and further added that he now aims to promote the promotion in the best way possible.
On the eve of WrestleMania 40, Triple H commented on the “Pat McAfee Show” about talents who declined to come to WWE, “When I see people coming out of trying to make it, and then they pick a job where, well, they work less, the schedule is lighter, then I’m like, ‘I’m glad I didn’t pick you.’ If you’re not in it for the grind, at that point early in your career, you have no business being here.”
This prompted Osprey to say, “Normally I wouldn’t rise to this type of bait, right? But seeing how the guy who said it is only in the position because he was grinding the boss’ daughter, you have no business telling me what the grind is all about, my friend, because you have no idea what I fight for,” on April 10 episode of AEW Dynamite.
With the whole wrestling community indulging in the discussion about the Ospreay-Triple H dispute, WWE HOFer Eric Bischoff threw himself in the fray as well.
WWE HOFer believes Will Ospreay needed to be creative
Talking about Ospreay’s talent, the former RAW GM said on the “83 Weeks” podcast, “I don’t know Will Ospreay. I am super impressed with what I’ve seen of him so far, super impressed with what I feel his potential could be.”
Further diving into the controversy, he said that he does not fault the AEW superstar for acting on human nature, but he hoped that Ospreay was a bit more creative in that regard. “If I’m Will Ospreay, and I’m new to this market as he is, and I’m trying to build a following, which he is, the last thing I want to do is take a shot at Paul Levesque,” added Bischoff.
After securing a monumental win over Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynasty, only time will tell how the future pans out for Will Ospreay.
