Drew McIntyre claims CM Punk’s WWE return ‘useless’ ahead of Elimination Chamber 2024

Drew McIntyre has been on the RAW roster, consistently disrespecting CM Punk in various ways. McIntyre even pushed the boundaries by wearing T-shirts that mock Punk’s WWE return, adorned with cartoon images.

RAW general manager Adam Pearce fined McIntyre for sporting the controversial gear. However, in a recent appearance on SmackDown before his Elimination Chamber match, McIntyre resumed taking shots at CM Punk, criticizing his comeback to WWE after a decade.

Drew McIntyre rips CM Punk

Drew McIntyre has been taking shots at CM Punk ever since he made his shocking comeback in October 2023. After his return to WWE, Punk and McIntyre were involved in a heated exchange on Monday Night RAW episodes. McIntyre has accused Punk of being a quitter, a coward, and a hypocrite. He also said that Punk is trying to steal his spotlight and take his place as the top star of WWE.

In today’s taped episode of SmackDown, McIntyre faced LA Knight in the main event ahead of their Elimination Chamber match. Prior to the match with Knight, McIntyre was featured in a backstage interview where he once again took a shot against CM Punk.

He said, “If I lose, my entire career is about as useless as CM Punk’s return to WWE.” McIntyre directly went against Punk and slammed his WWE return as ‘useless’. He took a straight jab at Punk, saying that if he failed to win the match, his career would be as useless as Punk’s return to WWE.

Has Drew McIntyre even won the WWE Elimination Chamber?

Drew McIntyre is one of the six superstars who will compete in the men’s Elimination Chamber match today at Australia’s Optus Stadium in Perth. The winner of this match will challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.

This is not the first Elimination Chamber match for The Scottish Warrior. In 2021, McIntyre won his first ever Chamber match, successfully defending his WWE Championship after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36.

McIntyre pinned AJ Styles with a Claymore Kick to retain his title, but his celebration was cut short by Bobby Lashley, who attacked him from behind. Lashley unleashed a brutal assault on McIntyre, throwing him into the steel structure and slamming him on the announce table.

McIntyre’s celebration lasted less than a minute as, surprisingly, the Money in the Bank winner, The Miz, made his way to the ring with his contract and cashed in against McIntyre. Despite being unable to fully recover from Lashley’s earlier assault, McIntyre couldn’t retain his title, and The Miz emerged victorious, securing the WWE Championship. Despite the challenges in the past, McIntyre enters today’s Chamber match with one goal: to win and headline WrestleMania 40.
