Drew McIntyre encourages latest WWE cuts to follow his footsteps: “Do a Drew”

WWE superstar Drew McIntyre is widely regarded as one of the top wrestlers in WWE. Inside the squared circle, he presents a formidable and terrifying presence, delivering claymores to his opponents.

Despite his villainous role in WWE, the Scottish Warrior remains one of the most humble wrestlers outside the ring. Recently, McIntyre sought to inspire the wrestlers who were released following the recent merger of WWE and UFC.

Drew McIntyre encourages latest WWE cuts

After the merger between WWE and UFC, many WWE stars were released as the company was trying to reduce production costs. They even terminated more than hundreds of employees due to this.

During a podcast with “Good Karma Wrestling”, Drew McIntyre commented on these talent cuts and advised from his own experience. Addressing the released talents, Drew McIntyre, aka the Scottish Warrior, said that they should try to duplicate his success outside the company and make it big in the industry.

“I hope they are inspired. From what I gather, the company tells people, ‘Do a Drew.’ My brother once said ‘You’ve become a verb.’ You have to go out there and reinvent yourself, grow your brand, and make yourself more valuable. I believe that’s the advice that the company gives people and some of the Superstars that are released come to me to ask for advice. Hopefully, they’ll look at the template of what I did.”

McIntyre said it based on his own experience, as he was also released by WWE in 2014. After that, he performed very well in the independent circuits and made a grand return in 2017.

Drew’s first WWE stint before release

Drew McIntyre has raised his status in WWE with numerous championship title wins and a notable victory at the Royal Rumble 2020. He has been recently seen in the ring with Miz in a WWE show. Now, the Scottish wrestler is set to face Seth Rollins at WWE Crown Jewel 2023.

McIntyre’s path to the top of the WWE roster was far from easy. He encountered numerous challenges along the way. While he was initially considered a promising wrestler in his first WWE run, he struggled to achieve the desired level of success. Despite the company’s high expectations, he couldn’t live up to them after his debut in 2009.

Vince McMahon made him fight many big superstars of that time, like Kane and Matt Hardy. McIntyre was also lucky enough to win the Intercontinental title in his first run with the company. But still, the star was underperforming and couldn’t reach the expectations that the company had for him. Eventually, he was released in 2014.

In many interviews, Drew McIntyre blamed his attitude for that release, saying that he was not that focused as he was always wasting time by going to parties and drinking. What was the best match in McIntyre’s WWE career? Let us know your pick in the comment section below!
