Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre has been having a good run lately, despite losing to Seth Rollins in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match earlier this month. Drew is a strong contender to win the Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 this Sunday in Tampa Bay, Florida.
It seems likely McIntyre will face former AEW superstar CM Punk soon. Their issues continue to simmer on WWE Raw. However, there is some uncertainty about McIntyre’s future with the promotion since his contract is set to expire.
When will Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract expire?
There have been rumors about Drew McIntyre’s future with WWE, as his contract is set to expire this year and he has reportedly not signed a new one yet. McIntyre has been considering his options as the expiration date approaches.
According to “PWInsider,” it was reported that The Scottish Warrior has yet to sign a new contract with WWE. It was noted that if he doesn’t sign a new deal, McIntyre will be free to compete anywhere after WrestleMania 40.
“Drew McIntyre still hasn’t signed a new contract with WWE. If a new deal isn’t reached, McIntyre would be free & clear to sign anywhere right after WrestleMania 40,” according to the report by PWInsider.
It is noteworthy that Drew McIntyre’s contract, which was initially set to expire in April 2024, may be extended due to his recent absence. However, his contractual status with WWE is still being discussed.
Currently, McIntyre is embroiled in feuds with Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and others as we approach the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on January 27th. It remains to be seen whether McIntyre will remain with WWE in the long run.
McIntyre outlasts Damian Priest on WWE Raw
During the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, McIntyre and Priest faced each other. The tension between the two wrestlers has been building up for a while, and recent events have only intensified the conflict. McIntyre firmly believes that Priest’s unsuccessful cash-in attempt during McIntyre’s World Heavyweight Championship match ended up costing him the title.
Last Monday, there was a heated confrontation during the main event as McIntyre interrupted the proceedings. The Scottish Warrior made his intentions clear, seemingly preventing Priest from cashing in his briefcase. As a result, a match was officially scheduled for this week’s show.
The match began with both competitors engaging in a fierce exchange, each trying to gain an early advantage. The intensity of the fight spilled out of the ring as McIntyre caught Priest and executed a belly-to-belly suplex. However, the tables turned as Judgment Day’s Punisher gained control, emphatically putting McIntyre through the announce table with a falcon arrow.
In the final moments of the match, R-Truth, who had been trying to join Judgment Day in recent weeks, appeared to provide Priest with his share of the merchandise money. Priest then executed the South of Heaven move on McIntyre, seemingly landing a decisive blow. Regrettably, the referee was distracted by Truth’s distracting behavior and therefore didn’t manage to count.
Priest became enraged by Truth’s interference and ended up throwing him out of the ring, which unintentionally allowed McIntyre to take advantage of the situation. Seizing the moment, McIntyre landed the Claymore and secured a crucial victory.
