Drew McIntyre’s contractual status is uncertain as it is set to expire soon. WWE has experienced both acquisitions and departures of talent recently, and rumors suggest challenges in negotiating a new extension contract between the company and the former WWE Champion.
Since McIntyre’s turn to heel, he has been making frequent appearances in the main roster. Opponents like Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso have all faced the WWE star’s ‘Claymore’ multiple times. Fans are left speculating whether the 38-year-old wrestler will sign with AEW or continue his career with WWE in the coming times.
Recent Developments in Drew McIntyre’s Contract Status
Drew McIntyre’s contract with WWE is drawing closer as it expires in early 2024. Per rumors, Drew is considering to explore his potential outside WWE including joining the company’s rival AEW. Although McIntyre might stick with WWE, a change to Tony Khan’s AEW might be the ultimate breakthrough for his career.
The expiration of the contract was never specified but it is speculated to be after WrestleMania 40 in April 2024. According to Andrew McLean Galloway IV aka Drew McIntyre, if he and WWE do not come to an understanding then he will consider other options.
‘The Scottish Warrior’ has made it clear that he is a main event level wrestler, and if WWE fails to reconsider their approach in recognizing his talent, then he will unhesitantly move on to a place where he is valued. Sports journalist Dave Meltzer spoke on Wrestling Observer Radio (WOR) about Drew’s contract situation.
Dave Meltzer during his interview with Wrestling Observer Radio in October 2023 said, “I could check but I do not believe he’s re-signed. They were gonna push him. He’s solid through April. There’s time, you can do whatever you want with him through April. So the deal is that his contract was to expire at the end of the year, but because of all the injury time accrued it’s April.”
Revitalizing His Persona: The Impact of Drew McIntyre’s Heel Turn on His Character
The most exciting moment for the fans was when Drew McIntyre slowly turned heel. Since his return from hiatus, WWE decided to turn his persona into a villainous character. After his run as the WWE champion ended, his persona started to dull, which forced the company to start a fresh chapter for “The Scottish Psychopath.”
In recent times, the wrestling superstar also appeared alongside ‘The Judgement Day’ for the Survivor Series WarGames match. Their team faced off against the team consisting Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Jey Uso, and Sami Zayn for the WarGames event at the Allstate Arena, Illinois.
McIntyre’s character has a lot left to be explored, even after the high number of losses he has racked up since his heel turn. The wrestler’s rivalry with Seth Rollins still has a lot to traverse. Rollins is currently in a conflict with CM Punk, but Drew still has his eye on the gold and will never be satisfied until he has it and he will face CM Punk if he has to.
The financial negotiations between McIntyre and WWE are still pending, and the WWE universe wants the company to provide the 38-year-old star with the raise he deserves. Ultimately, Drew belongs with WWE, and fans cannot imagine seeing him move to other promotions due to his contract expiry.
