Brock Purdy is not over the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs yet, but that doesn’t limit him from doing heroic acts off the field. The quarterback recently recounted a remarkable incident on The Pat McAfee Show, where he saved a local news anchor from a potential coyote attack while filming a commercial for John Deere.
From being Mr. Irrelevant to leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl run and now saving a life, McAfee was all in praise for Purdy.
“You saved a life; you saved a dog. You shot a John Deere tractor in San Francisco. You’re pick 262, leading a team to the Super Bowl in your second year. You’re a magic man, Brock,” McAfee said.
The 49ers signal-caller humbly acknowledged the praise and said he couldn’t even believe that the incident was real.
“Appreciate you guys. Yeah, I can’t believe that was a real thing. But she walked by, and then, sure enough, she said she was a news anchor. I’m like, ‘Dude, I just saved a news anchor’s life from getting eaten by a coyote. It’s real, man, I can confirm it,” Purdy responded.
Purdy, also known as the 49ers ‘game manager’ and the host, agreed that seeing a coyote in San Francisco was unusual. It appears that the Niners quarterback was just as unaware of their presence as anyone else.
“We’re shooting this commercial by a hill on the outside of the city and I see this thing trotting by and it had a long tail, and I was like ‘Bro, it looks like a mini wolf.”
The commercial was star-studded, including notable figures like Tyrese Haliburton and Gabby Douglas. However, Purdy’s act of heroism stole the spotlight.
How did Brock Purdy save the reporter from Coyote?
CBS News Bay Area anchor Sara Donchey found herself in a potentially dangerous encounter with a coyote while walking her dog. She described how she heard a shout of “Coyote!” and turned around to see the looming presence of the predatory animal creeping up behind her and her 90-pound Doberman, Hiwa. Donchey exuded confidence in her ability to protect herself and her dog, but the threat was nonetheless concerning.
It was then that Brock Purdy, known for his prowess on the football field, stepped in to rescue Donchey and her dog from potential harm. His quick thinking and powerful voice likely startled the coyote, and averted a potentially dangerous situation. Donchey expressed admiration for Purdy’s ability to project his voice effectively.
“I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised with how loud he shouted because he has to do that on the field every play. He had really great projection with his voice. I am thoroughly impressed and, I must say, I underestimated that part about Brock Purdy as a professional skill,” she said via Yahoo Sports.
Brock Purdy’s timely intervention ultimately turned what could have been a harrowing experience into a tale of gratitude and admiration. What’s your take on this? Tell us in the comments section.
