Dwanye Johnson, known by his Wrestling name, The Rock, has made a identity for himself in both Wrestling and Hollywood. With his physique and mic skills, The Rock is regarded one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. His recent shift to a heel persona has caused WWE fans to hate him.
However, WWE fans still appreciate The Rock’s presence in the ring due to his long history in WWE. Although he debuted in WWE with a different name, during an interview, Johnson himself revealed the reason behind his name and the person who came up with the idea for ‘The Rock’.
Why is Dwayne Johnson called ‘The Rock’?
During an interview back in 2022, The Rock opened up about the secret of how he got his legendary name, The Rock. He said, “The birth story of the Rock is from before I did what I do now; many moons ago, I used to throw around 300-pound men for a living and get my ass kicked. And then my original nickname was ‘Rocky Miavia,’ which was a combination of my dad’s first name and grandfather’s last name because both of them were pro wrestlers.”
Rock was born into a family of wrestlers, where both his father and grandfather were prominent figures in pro wrestling. His grandfather, Peter Maivia, was a well-known wrestler from Samoa, and his father, Rocky Johnson, was a trailblazer in the wrestling industry, becoming the first black wrestler to win the WWF Tag Team Championship.
The Rock’s new persona was a huge hit with the fans, and he quickly rose to the top of the wrestling industry, becoming a multiple-time world champion and headlining three consecutive WrestleManias. Rock revealed that his original ring name was Rocky Miavia, derived from parts of his father and grandfather’s names. He also disclosed that the name “The Rock” was coined by none other than Vince McMahon, who recently resigned from the WWE.

On today’s SmackDown, in the backstage, Wiseman of The Bloodline, Paul Heyman had a heated conversation with the COO of WWE, Triple H. Triple H made his presence in the backstage, after making a huge announcement for the main event of WrestleMania 40.
Heyman confirmed that the Tribal Chief will make his presence to next episode of SmackDown to address the scene, that happened in the WrestleMania 40 press conference. At the end he said that he will also bring Reigns’ cousin, The Rock to the show.
The Rock’s dream of maineventing WrestleMania 40 for the WWE Undisputed Championship went under table, as the American Nightmare earned his spot for the main event by winning the Royal Rumble match.
There are also rumors saying that Reigns was not happy to see The Rock’s domination in recent times in the WWE, that makes him the real Head Of The Table, than him. However, the fans are eagerly waiting for next friday, predicting what will happen when The Rock and Roman Reigns meet face to face again.
