Last month on Friday Night SmackDown, Dwayne Johnson made his long-awaited return to the company. It seems like the WWE Universe is still not over The Great One’s appearance, as they made a meme from his segment on SmackDown last month, which caught the WWE Legend’s eye.
After almost a 4 year hiatus from the company, Dwayne Johnson returned on the September 15 edition of Friday Night SmackDown and surprised the entire WWE Universe. The Hollywood megastar has been away from the Stamford-based promotion for several years. However, with the recent SAG-AFTRA writer’s strike, it’s possible that his schedule cleared up for him to make a short appearance.
Dwayne Johnson reacts to viral meme
Dwayne Johnson has given the fans tons of memes throughout his material, most of them being his famous catchphrases. He recently made an appearance on SmackDown last month, where he not only reunited with his long-time rival John Cena, but also re-enacted one of his most famous memes.
The September 15, 2023 edition of SmackDown kicked off with Pat McAfee making his way to the ring to address the crowd. In the middle of his segment, he was interrupted by Austin Theory, and the two men got into a war of words. The Rock made a surprise return during the segment, and received one of the loudest pops of the year. He insulted Theory and ended the segment with delivering a People’s Elbow to the 26-year-old star.
During the segment, Dwayne Johnson used one of his most iconic catchphrases. While Austin Theory was talking, The Brahma Bull told Theory to shut up with his iconic line, “Shut your b**** a** up”. The short clip of the segment soon went viral on social media, with fans making memes using different captions on the video. One such meme caught Johnson’s eye, and he reacted to it, saying:
“Internet undefeated 👏🏾😂”, said Dwayne Johnson in reaction to a meme.
Last time The Rock worked a match
Over the past decade, Dwayne Johnson has been pretty busy with his Hollywood schedule and made only sporadic appearances here and there. His last rivalry in the company was against none other than John Cena, with a match between the two being the main event of two consecutive WrestleManias.
The last time that Dwayne Johnson actually wrestled in the ring was actually almost 7 years ago, at WrestleMania 32, where he faced off against Wyatt Family member Erik Rowan. However, it was a short match, with The Great One defeating his opponent in a mere 6-second match, pinning him with the Rock Bottom.
Following his win, The Rock was about to be ambushed by the rest of the Wyatt Family members. Thankfully, Johnson’s longtime rival-turned-friend John Cena came to make the save. The two legends stood tall against the villainous group, creating a moment that will be remembered by fans of the upcoming generations.
Dwayne Johnson reunited with John Cena backstage, during his appearance on the 15 September 2023 episode of SmackDown. It was a really heartfelt moment, which was cherished by fans all over the world. We hope to see The Great One return to the ring once more, before he retires for good.
