Eddie Hearn drops bold prediction on Wayne Rooney vs Jake Paul potential boxing bout

Wayne Rooney, after making a mark in football, is now getting ready to make a statement in the boxing ring. The legendary soccer player could potentially take on the rising star of professional boxing, Jake Paul. Promoter Eddie Hearn is already weighing in on what could happen in this anticipated match-up.

After recently dropping the prediction of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk title bout, Eddie Hearn has made a bold statement suggesting that Jake Paul could face a defeat against football legend Wayne Rooney in the ring.

Eddie Hearn claims Wayne Rooney will defeat Jake Paul

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of buzz about a potential fight involving Boxing Manager Hearn and Wayne Rooney. Wayne has previously expressed interest in stepping into the boxing ring. Now Eddie Hearn seems confident in Rooney’s boxing abilities and believes the football legend could defeat influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

When asked about the potential showdown between Jake and Rooney during an interview with DAZN boxing, Hearn seemed to have already picked his winner.

Recognizing the legendary footballer’s amateur skills, Eddie Hearn believes it’s Wayne Rooney, even at 38 years old, who could defeat 27-year-old Jake. Hearn stated, “He used to box; he was actually an amateur; he knows how to look after himself… Wayne Rooney vs. Jake Paul at Old Trafford would be a massive event, and I’d back Rooney to win it.”

While the “Problem Child” hasn’t commented on this potential bout yet, Wayne Rooney has finally cleared the air surrounding the hype, more like poured cold water on the buzz.

Wayne Rooney shuts down boxing rumors

Eddie Hearn may have already weighed in on the potential outcome of the rumored bout between Rooney and Jake, but fans were eagerly awaiting the football legend’s statement.

However, Wayne Rooney seems more inclined to pursue his passion for football rather than stepping into the boxing ring. During a conversation with Misfits Boxing Wayne, he expressed his focus on returning to football management, stating, “I think I want to focus on getting back into football management, not boxing. Misfits have been in touch, and that’s been all over the news, but my main focus is getting back into football.”

As per talkSport, there were 10 footballers who have tried their luck in boxing already, and currently, Katie Taylor’s name has been the most success in boxing. Though they were all not as popular as Wayne Rooney on the football field, they did choose to become boxers, with some finding success in the ring.

After shutting down all the rumors about fighting Jake Paul, will fans ever get to see Wayne Rooney show up and try his luck in boxing in the near future?
