Turki Alalshikh had expressed interest in seeing a 5 versus 5 series between Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn and Queensberry Promotion’s Fran Warren. Hearn and Warren had the chance to choose two weight classes each, followed by the fifth weight class of Alalshikh’s choice. Warren chose heavyweight and middleweight, whereas Hearn chose featherweight and light heavyweight. Interestingly, Alalshikh chose heavyweight.
Both promoters have revealed their fighters recently per Metro and the boxing fans are riled up. Matchroom’s Deontay Wilder versus Zhilei Zhang of Queensberry will be the captains of their respective teams and a victory for the captain will be worth a double haul. The other heavyweight fight between Matchroom’s Filip Hrgovic and Queensberry’s Daniel Dubois is a potential number-one contender fight for the IBF heavyweight title.
The WBA featherweight title will be on the line when Matchroom’s Ray Ford takes on Nick Ball of Queensberry. Austin Williams of Matchroom will have a strong foe opposite him in Queensberry’s undefeated middleweight, Hamzah Sheeraz. The light heavyweight matchup will be between Craig Richards and Willy Hutchinson of Matchroom and Queensberry, respectively.
After the 5 vs 5 series, which will culminate in a co-main event fight between Wilder and Zhang, the boxing world will crown the light heavyweight undisputed champion on June 1. The unified champion, Artur Beterbiev, locks horns with Dmitry Bivol, the WBA champion promoted by Eddie Hearn.
Eddie Hearn hypes up Team Matchroom
Eddie Hearn’s 5 vs 5 series against Frank Warren is under special rules, with a point for a decision victory and two for a stoppage. Hearn seems very excited with his team of Deontay Wilder, Filip Hrgovic, Ray Ford, Austin Williams, and Craig Richards.
“That’s why they call him El Animal; about to take Daniel Dubois to school”, Hearn hyped up Hrgovic, predicting a mid to late stoppage for his fighter. “This man is back with bad intentions and will destroy Zhilei Zhang inside three rounds”, Hearn said of Wilder, the team captain. Hearn also predicted a late stoppage for Ray Ford, calling him “The best featherweight in the world”.
“I think this is a guaranteed win”, Hearn said of Craig Richards who will be fighting Willy Hutchinson. Even though Austin Williams is an underdog against the undefeated Hamzah Sheeraz, Hearn even predicted a knockout victory for his middleweight fighter.
