Edge reveals retirement plan ahead of hometown return: “it’s getting really hard”

WWE Hall of Famer Edge is reportedly retiring from in-ring competition again. He is said to have his last match on SmackDown this Friday in Toronto, Canada, which is also the superstar’s hometown. Amidst these rumors and reports, The Rated-R Superstar has confirmed its validity in a recent video.

Edge had to initially retire from in-ring competition in 2011 due to a life-threatening neck injury. Doctors informed him that one more bump could potentially end his life. This pretty much forced him to retire. However, he ultimately made his return to WWE in 2020 at the Men’s Royal Rumble match as the 21st entrant.

Since then, he went on to have an illustrious 3 years in the company, taking part in several high-profile matches and feuds, including his rivalry with Randy Orton. Back then, it was reported that his contract with WWE was for 3 years only and now it seems like his time is up in the company.

Edge addresses retirement speculations

This Friday on SmackDown, Edge is scheduled to face Sheamus in a singles match that could very well be his last match in WWE. The two men have quite a history together, with Sheamus being the one who motivated and influenced Edge to get back in shape for his return.

The Rated-R Superstar and The Celtic Warrior had an emotional segment last week, where they reflected on the influence each of them had on each others’ careers. Now it seems like The Ultimate Opportunist has handpicked his last opponent in the company.

In a recent video, Edge addressed the rumors about his final match in WWE. However, his response probably wasn’t what many fans anticipated. According to the Hall of Famer, he himself is unsure whether it’s his last match in WWE or not. All he knows is that it’s the last match on his current contract.

He doesn’t even know if his contract will be extended or not. He further talked about turning 50 this October and how it’s getting harder for him to compete in the ring.

It should also be noted that last week, Edge’s trainer confirmed that this Friday would be his last night in WWE. It has since been reported by various media outlets that the Rated-R Superstar is indeed going to hang up his boots this week on SmackDown.

WWE HOFer set to face Sheamus at SmackDown in Toronto

In what is probably his last match in WWE, Edge will reportedly face his friend Sheamus in a singles match. The two have helped each other personally and have had a significant impact on each other’s lives. Considering that it’s his last match in the company, it is nice to see that WWE is letting the Hall of Famer retire in his hometown and on his own terms.

Edge

Many WWE fans are excited to see The Ultimate Opportunist wrestle for one last time before he hangs up his boots. Although it is sudden, it’s definitely time for Edge to take a break from wrestling before it takes further toll on his health.
