The summer transfer market is closer than you think, and clubs are already planning their next moves. Players like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are some of the best players in the world, but they are also one of the most expensive ones.
While Mbappe is close to joining Spanish giants Real Madrid for free this summer, their rivals Barcelona have no suitable response. The Catalans cannot spend heavily in the upcoming transfer window, with President Joan Laporta confirming so. But it seems there is some hope at last for the fans.
Erling Haaland’s agent reportedly met Deco
Erling Haaland has long been linked to move to Barcelona, but it seems the rumors are back. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has already met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco last month. It is thought that they spoke about the player’s future among many issues, and that the club would prioritize signing him in the next summer of 2025.
This is not the first time the club has shown interest in acquiring the player. Back in 2022, Haaland was one of the most sought-after players in the world at Borussia Dortmund. At the time, he had a relatively low release clause of €60 million. Barcelona were among the many clubs interested in the player, and Haaland was apparently ready to move to the Catalan side.
Alf-Inge Haaland, Erling’s father and their agent at the time, Mino Raiola, even visited Barcelona, among many other cities, in 2021 to find a new destination for the player. Manager Xavi later traveled to Munich personally to discuss how the Norwegian would fit into his team. Both parties were ready to make a deal happen, but the club’s financial situation prevented it. Instead, Haaland went to Manchester City, and Barcelona pursued Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
How can Barcelona afford Erling Haaland?
But it looks like Erling Haaland could still join Barcelona if the club plays their cards right this time. The player has a special release clause in his contract for clubs outside England worth $108 million. This is still a steep price for the Spanish club to match, which is why they aim to make it happen next year in the summer of 2025.
Real Madrid is building a great side full of superstars, with the possible addition of Kylian Mbappe this summer. Barcelona needs to respond forcefully, and their solution is to bring in Haaland to become their star player up front. They have already devised a plan to make it happen despite all their financial troubles.
Braca are optimistic that by the time their new Spotify Camp Nou stadium opens later this year, they will start to raise significant funds from that. On the other hand, they will also have to make some high value player sales in the next three transfer windows, despite President Laporta saying otherwise. Another important factor is that Laporta has a very good relationship with the player’s agent Rafaela Pimenta, who could help facilitate a deal on favorable terms.
Barcelona have great plans for the future, and it seems like Erling Haaland will be key to those plans. Do you think they can pull this off?
