The UEFA Euro 2024 edition, Europe’s biggest continental event, is set to kick off next summer in Germany. The globally renowned sporting brand Adidas has joined forces with UEFA as one of the official sponsors for the tournament.
In soccer, the impact of small margins on altering a match’s course is apparent. Even a second or millimeters of space holds significant importance in terms of the offside rule, goal-line decisions, or advantage play. As the official Euro match ball sponsor, Adidas has enhanced technology to tackle any such errors.
Euro match ball’s microchip promises enhanced offside detection
Recently, the German sports manufacturing giant Adidas unveiled the official Euro 2024 match ball ‘FUSSBALLLIEBE,’ on November 15, which will be used throughout the tournament happening in Germany. It’s no ordinary match ball; instead, it’s equipped with a high-tech chip to enhance VAR and on-pitch decision-making.
The FUSSBALLLIEBE, meaning ‘love of football,’ will introduce connected ball technology, including motion sensor technology, in the UEFA European Champions 2024. This technology, previously introduced at the Qatar World Cup 2022, proved to be a success, leading to its adoption by UEFA afterward.
The match ball is designed with CTR-CORE technology to enhance accuracy and consistency, supporting precise and fast gameplay with maximum shape and air retention. Most importantly, the ball is equipped with technology at its center that can record data 500 times within a second. It is simultaneously synced with the stadium camera to present 3D visual graphics.
It is also said that FUSSBALLLIEBE is made up of sustainable bio-based materials, making it eco-friendly. The ball is primarily produced with components such as corn fibers, sugar cane, wood pulp, and rubber in its layering. In addition to microchip sensors, this technology is expected to improve efficiency and accuracy in decision-making, bringing about influential change.
