The game of basketball has given its fans some of the most thrilling and memorable moments of their lives, and it’s all thanks to the players who create those moments. One such moment was created by former Houston Rockets player Tracy McGrady in 2004.
Tracy, the 7-time NBA All-Star is considered one of the greatest basketball players of his generation. He created a moment that dropped a lot of jaws and is still remembered to this day. Recently, sports giant Adidas decided to honor that moment with a special edition T-Mac shoe.
Tracy McGrady’s iconic late-game outburst in Rockets comeback
In the 2004 season, the Houston Rockets were facing the San Antonio Spurs, who were in great winning form. The match between the two teams was evenly matched, but the Spurs were able to establish a lead in the final moments of the game and were looking to hold on to it to win the game. It seemed almost impossible for the Rockets to make a comeback, but Tracy McGrady had other plans in mind.
In a matter of mere seconds, T-Mac pulled off arguably the best individual performance by a player in the NBA. In just 33 seconds he scored 13 points and single-handedly demolished the lead the Spurs had worked on the whole quarter to establish. Rockets then cashed in on the great opening created by T-Mac to break the hearts of many Spurs fans.
On being asked about his thoughts before pulling off such a superhuman feat Tracy McGrady said, “Something clicked and it was a wheel to take over. Once I hit the first three and then the second three… when they (Spurs) threw the ball to their player, no one had touched him. He tripped on his own and fell, the ball rolled to me. The basketball gods talked to me that night. I am dribbling the ball up on the court and I am looking for the spot, head down, and pop! It’s Game over.”
Adidas commemorated T-Mac’s unforgettable flurry with special shoes
The sportswear giant Adidas recently announced their T-Mac 5 shoes to commemorate and honor the magical moment created by Tracy McGrady in the Rockets vs Sours match. The T-Mac 5 is a special sneaker that is designed to remind one of that incredible night for T-Mac. It dawns the colors silver and black with a metallic tone finish representing Spurs.
The sneakers contain Tracy’s jersey number on the back and the word T-Mac on the outer soles, representing Tracy McGrady. The nubuck sheath that covers the forefoot of the sneaker is made of black patent leather to create a contrast with all the dominant silver colors in the shoe.
