NFL players are more often than not, failing to maintain a civil public image lately. While success in the sport comes with all kinds of ‘rewards’ which include both fame and fortune, how a player decides to utilize these privileges could however, is a different story.
From illegal possession of arms/drugs to speeding, physical assault, and even going as far as murder, many notable NFL figures have made the news for all the wrong reasons. Now Former Chiefs’ Cornerback Bashaud Breeland has added his name to the unpleasant list.
Former Chiefs player Breeland faces serious charges
Former member of the 2019-20 Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs squad Bashaud Breeland got pulled over by police in the parking lot of 701 North Graham Street following several allegations. He was arrested at nearly 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2023. However, the cornerback was released several hours later after posting a $30,000 bond.
According to charging documents, Breeland is charged with the allegations of possessing a stolen 2020 Mercedes Benz G550 SUV, guns, and illicit drugs. When police officers were searching through the vehicle, they found some concealed firearms including assault rifles and handguns along with two Glock automatic conversion switches, copious amounts of drugs as well as several thousand dollars in cash with him.

According to Mecklenburg County Jail records, the former Clemson veteran had to face six criminal offenses following the traffic stop including “possession of a stolen motor vehicle, altering serial numbers, altering a title, possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm.”
The footballer recorded 48 tackles, two interceptions along with two fumble recoveries during his first season in Kansas City. He recorded 439 tackles, 16 interceptions as well as 86 passes defended during his stints with four teams.
Who did Bashaud Breeland last play for?
After being drafted by the Commanders in 2014, Breeland played four seasons with them before joining the Green Bay Packers to play one season there. Later he joined the Chiefs and played two years with them. The cornerback has been a starter in 26 games in the regular season and 6 games in the postseason there.
The 31-year-old star later joined the Vikings in 2021 and played 13 games with the franchise before getting released by them in the same year following his involvement in a verbal altercation with coaches during practice sessions. Since then, he didn’t play for any NFL team though he was reportedly in contact with the Arizona Cardinals back in January 2022.
Bashaud’s NFL journey might see its end following continuous legal issues. Meanwhile, the incident serves as a reminder to other players of how off-field incidents might collapse a promising career.
