Ex-F1 champ Lewis Hamilton reflects on iconic battle with Aston Martin’s arch rival: “Gave me hell”

The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix was one of the most entertaining races of the season. A crash at turn one reshuffled the whole field, with some cars retiring.
Ocon, finding himself at P1 in the later stages of the race, was chasing Lewis Hamilton in P5, and Ocon’s ex-teammate Fernando Alonso, running in P4, had one and only one objective: defend Hamilton and not let him pass and snatch the title from Ocon.

The race ended with Ocon P1, Vettel P2, and Hamilton P3, but soon after P2 was given to Lewis due to Sebastian’s car coming short on fuel and in turn breaking FIA rules.

Lewis Hamilton sheds light on Iconic battle with Fernando Alonso

In an interview after the race Lewis had this to say about the incident: “Fernando gave me hell out there,”

“It was awesome racing, pretty on edge at least once but great racing.

“Looking back on it, it was amazing, it really, really was fantastic.

“I wish the cars could follow closer and I’m excited about what the cars are like next year. Hopefully, that eradicates a lot of that bad drafting that we have here.

“But yeah, it’s a really difficult circuit to overtake in general and to follow particularly in that last sector but great, great wheel-to-wheel battles. It literally was wheel-to-wheel at least once and I don’t really have much more to say about it. When you’re racing against a two-time World Champion, he probably is one of the hardest drivers – but fair. I’d say today was a little bit over on the limit.”

The two continue to be two of F1’s fiercest racers. Both of them are top contenders for securing a podium finish in every race; however, in recent times, Max Verstappen has stolen the limelight with his blistering performances.

How many F1 championships does Lewis Hamilton have?

Lewis won his first title back in 2008 with McLaren, along with the above-mentioned two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, and since then there was no stopping him.
