Ex-F1 warns Max Verstappen ‘can’t keep winning’ as Mad Max admits to ‘difficult’ relationship with crucial Red Bull member

Max Verstappen is an all rounder and sometimes it can be pretty frustrating when the three-time World Champion always has the limelight of the show. Many competitors, as well as Verstappen’s own teammates, have remained under the shadow of Verstappen this season. The Dutchman has displayed a blistering performance throughout the season, stealing the attention of the audience.

Mark Webber, too, was frustrated with Verstappen, as Oscar Piastri’s incredible achievement was hardly celebrated, and Verstappen yet again, was the center of attention at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Max’s fame has also made many upset, and former F1 racer Mark Webber is one of them. In the Qatar GP, Oscar Piastri made an incredible achievement but unfortunately got overshadowed by Mad Max.

Former F1 star warns Max Verstappen ‘can’t keep winning

Oscar Piastri’s performance at the Sprint Race of the Qatar GP was phenomenal, as he broke the dominance of the Red Bull by keeping Verstappen in second place. However, this huge success of the driver despite being a rookie was not celebrated widely by everyone, as Verstappen’s success in clinching his third title was acclaimed. Mark Webber, the manager of Piastri, was deeply disturbed by the scenario. He heaped praise on Verstappen’s constant achievements.

He told Formule.NL “Last year everyone said: ‘It can’t get any better than this’, but it turns out it is.”

“The extent to which he continues to perform: if you can consistently do that at a high level, then you are always a danger to your competitors in top sport.”

“Examples in other sports are Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods. Although Max does not yet have a trophy cabinet as big as theirs, his consistent performance is terrifying.”

However, despite all the praise, Webber also subtly warned the driver that he simply cannot keep winning like before, as there is better competition awaiting him in the future.

Webber said, “What they are doing is impressively good.”

“But that said, no one can argue that Max Verstappen just keeps winning. So we’ll see about that.”

Max Verstappen admits to ‘difficult’ relationship with Red Bull member

Max Verstappen has recently stated that his relationship with his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, was rather “difficult”.

Verstappen is always known to be very clear over the radio, as per the instructions given to him. However, at the Belgian Grand Prix, Lambiase advised Verstappen to “use his head more” after the world champion had disregarded instructions to conserve his tires, choosing instead to set exceptionally fast lap times while leading the race.

During the warm-up session, Liambase stated that Verstappen still had a lot more to learn for his upcoming races.

When asked about the relationship, Verstappen commented, “[It’s] Incredibly important.”

“I think a race engineer really needs to understand you and it’s very rare to have such a strong connection I think with an engineer.”

“We hit the ground running quite in a crazy way, winning our first race together.”

“You have your tough moments as well, because I’m a strong character, he’s a strong character, but that’s what I like because I will say to him when it’s bad and I will say to him when it’s good and he says that to me as well. That’s why I think we get on so well.”

“That’s why sometimes we get quite vocal on the radio and then people sometimes think that we don’t like each other but we actually have a lot of respect for each other and we always want the best in every single situation.”
