The search for a new manager continues for Bayern Munich, and a surprising name has now entered the list. Ralf Rangnick is the latest name to be linked with the Bavarians, who are set to lose Thomas Tuchel as manager at the end of the season. The two parties previously decided to end their partnership after a very poor season which saw them lose the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bavarians have been looking for new managers for some months now, with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Unai Emery and many more names being mentioned. However, Rangnick is a surprising name considering he is mainly remembered for his failed stint with Manchester United a couple of years ago.
Rangnick is currently the manager of the Austrian national team and will prepare them for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. He is currently one of the favorites for the Bayern job and did not shy away when asked about it.
According to Fabrizio Romano, he confirmed that he already had contact with Bayern Munich and that the Austrian soccer federation has been informed. “Bayern Munich have contacted me and I have also informed the OFB (Austrian Football Association). We have a very trusting relationship. My focus is on the Austrian national team.”
“The moment Bayern would say, âWe want youâ. And then I have to ask myself, âDo I even want this?â If I want to do something else, I will first discuss it with the OFB.” At the moment, he is focused on the Euros with Austria, but could join Bayern after the tournament.
Ralf Rangnick’s stint with Manchester United
Fans still remember Ralf Rangnick and his failed stint with Premier League club Manchester United. He was appointed back in the middle of the 2021â22 season, and was also expected to be in a consultancy role for the next two years. His tenure saw big losses, such as the 4-0 loss to Liverpool.
United ended up in 6th place in the league, and with 58 points, it was their worst season in the Premier League era. He also got criticized by Cristiano Ronaldo later on in an infamous interview. Rangnick was later succeeded by Erik ten Hag, who is himself being rumored to be replaced with current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel.
It remains to be seen whether Ralf Rangnick is appointed as Bayern manager at the end of the season, but he will focus on the Euros for now.
