The Los Angeles Clippers star, Russell Westbrook does not have a good record when it comes to upholding his image in public. He has faced severe criticism for his selfish playstyle on the court and for his not-so-pleasant interaction with the media.
However, many players from the league and veterans. have stepped up on several occasions to defend Brodie. They have explained how Russell is a nice guy in real life and most recently ex-NBA player Dorell Wright joined the supporters and defended Brodie.
Dorell Wright lauds Westbrook’s kindness
Dorell Wright was invited to the Knuckleheads podcast where he talked with the hosts about various topics including the NBA and the players in the league. The retired sharpshooter came up in the defense of Mr. Triple Double and said, “A lot of people misunderstand who Russell really is, People just see his face, balled up on the court and willing to go through everybody, get the win or help his team win. A lot of people think Russ like that off the court. He is One of the nicest dudes ever, give you his shirt off his back if he had to.”
The surprising element here is that Wright was never teammates with Russell Westbrook in the NBA. Wright played for the Miami Heat from 2004 to 2010 before moving on to the Golden State Warriors, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers and the Portland Trail Blazers. They never had an official opportunity to play together in the league. However, they did have a chance to play together once when Westbrook was in the ninth grade.
Russell Westbrook’s heartwarming gesture to young fan
In the recent preseason game for the Clippers that took place at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, the fans witnessed a heartwarming moment when Russell Westbrook brought a fan to tears. Mr. Triple Double gifted his game-worn jersey to a young fan and this act of kindness by Westbrook made that young fan’s day.
This kind gesture by Brodie highlights his off-court kindness, aligning with the statements of those who have defended him. Russell spotted a fan sitting a few rows above the court, wearing a blue Clippers Westbrook jersey. Inspired by the fan’s support, Russ decided to gift his game-worn jersey to the teenager, making the preseason game a special moment for the young fan that he will likely remember forever.
