There’s always something special about Brazilians and their long history with football. According to stats, Brazil is the highest exporter of footballers in the world, which means they have the highest number of players overseas. This is why we can never forget the story of players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, and Neymar, who have enjoyed success in Europe. On the other hand, there are some underrated Brazilian players, and that’s the category Marcelo falls into.
Marcelo was one of the most talented and naturally-gifted left-backs in his prime. Many even regarded him as the second-best left-back to ever play for Real Madrid behind Roberto Carlos. The former Real Madrid captain left the club last year, signing for Olympiakos in Greece, before returning to Brazil to sign for Fluminese, where he currently plays.

While most defenders are known for their high-flying tackles and no-nonsense attitude, Marcelo is that defender with class and hardly flies into tackles. The Brazilian is more popular for his dribbling skills and sleek ball controls. During his 16 seasons at Real Madrid, Marcelo was only sent off four times. During a similar period, Sergio Ramos got 26 red cards for Real Madrid, setting the record for the most red cards in La Liga.

This says much about Marcelo’s character, as he cares more about playing with his brains than his head. Unfortunately, last night was different for the Brazilian, who was involved in a leg-breaking tackle in a Copa Libertadores match against Argentinos Juniors. The former Real Madrid player unknowingly stepped on the legs of Luciano Sanchez, leaving the latter with a broken leg and the former with a red card.
Marcelo left the pitch with tears in his eyes, and he quickly posted on social media after the match to send his love to the victim. “Today, I had to experience a very difficult moment on the pitch. I have inadvertently injured a colleague. I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sanchez. I send you all the strength in the world,” the left-back posted on social media.

Injury update on Luciano Sanchez
Luciano Sanchez had to be stretchered off the pitch after the horrible tackle from Marcelo. The Argentine was quickly taken to the hospital, although not much has been shared about the severity of the injury. According to BBC, doctors at Sanatorio Finochietto Hospital have claimed it could take the defender eight to twelve months to recover from the injury.
