The ties between Carroll and the Huskies coaching staff run deep. Coach Fisch, a former member of Carroll’s inaugural Seahawks staff in 2010, serves as an example to their shared coaching journey. Carroll’s son, Brennan Carroll, also assumed the roles of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
The convergence of coaching legacies doesn’t end there, as former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has also been a notable presence around the Huskies’ facilities. Belichick’s son, Steve, recently assumed the role of defensive coordinator.
Why did the Seahawks fire Pete Carroll as head coach?
The decision to fire Pete Carroll as head coach of the Seahawks marks the end of an era for the franchise. Carroll, who joined the team in 2010, leaves behind a legacy as the winningest coach in the team’s history. His tenure included a remarkable Super Bowl victory in 2013, but recent seasons have seen a decline in performance.
The Seahawks’ failure to qualify for the postseason for the second time in three years was a significant factor in Carroll’s dismissal, via ESPN. They made the playoffs six times since their Super Bowl triumph, but struggled to advance past the divisional round. Besides that, defensive regression and underperforming offense contributed to the team’s disappointing 9-8 season record.
Carroll’s departure marks the end of the fourth-longest coaching tenure among current NFL head coaches. The Seahawks now have Mike Macdonald as their new head coach.
