Following the resounding triumph against the Houston Texans, the Baltimore Ravens propelled themselves deeper into the postseason. The team’s quarterback, Lamar Jackson, has been looking promising enough to secure the MVP title for the second time in his career. His performance throughout the season earned him high praise from Maryland Governor Wes Moore. He even earned admiration from NBA icons like LeBron James and Ja Morant.
The Ravens offensive side, led by Jackson, has been a nightmare for the rivals throughout the season. The O-line is going to get a boost as the team elevates former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Dan Chisena ahead of the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ravens promote Dan Chisena to AFC Championship squad
The Ravens have elevated Dan Chisena and inside linebacker Josh Ross from the practice squad, as announced by the team on Saturday via NBC Sports.
Dan Chisena joined the Ravens this month and quickly found a spot on the practice squad. He would bring valuable experience to the special teams unit. Having played 53 special teams snaps and one on offense during his four games with the Arizona Cardinals this season, the veteran adds depth and versatility to the Ravens’ playoff roster.
Joining Chisena in this elevation is inside linebacker Josh Ross, who also emerged from the practice squad for the divisional playoff win over the Houston Texans. Despite limited stats in the regular season, he played a significant role with 16 special team snaps in the previous playoff matchup.
The Ravens’ special team dynamics are compounded by the absence of core players Tylan Wallace and Del’Shawn Phillips against the Texans. Wallace, dealing with a knee issue, and Phillips, nursing a shoulder injury, were both limited in Friday’s practice. The elevated roles of Chisena and Ross become even more crucial in filling the gaps left by these key players.
Dan Chisena’s roller-coaster NFL Season
From signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers to finding a home with the Baltimore Ravens, Dan Chisena’s journey has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. It all began on January 23, 2023, when he inked a reserve/future contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, only to be released just months later, on August 26, 2023.
However, the WR quickly found a new opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings by joining their practice squad on October 11, 2023. However, his time with the Vikings was short-lived, as he was waived on November 21.
Nevertheless, just when it seemed his NFL dreams might be fading, the receiver’s fortunes took a turn for the better when he was signed to the Cardinals practice squad on November 22, 2023. His perseverance paid off when he was promoted to the active roster on December 2. He was released and re-signed to the practice squad on December 5.
On January 10, 2024, Dan Chisena found a new opportunity with the Ravens, joining their practice squad. Now, it remains to be seen what awaits him as the team elevates him from the squad.
