After being selected by the Tennessee Titans as the eleventh pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Taylor Lewan has been successful in living up to the lofty expectations of the franchise. During his decade-long career in Tennessee, the offensive tackle established himself as a game-changer in the squad and made three Pro Bowls from 2016 to 2018.

Taylor’s contribution to the Titans’ offensive line is immense as he paved the way for his team to finish top five in the league in rushing four times during his career. This offseason has been full of speculation about the veteran’s departure from professional football, albeit now he himself has come forward to smash the rumors.

Taylor Lewan clarifies doubts about the retirement announcement

In a clip posted by Barstool Sports, Taylor Lewan sent shockwaves among fans by boldly claiming he has retired. However, the veteran later retweeted the same video saying he had not yet decided to hang up his cleats. He further added that the post didn’t include the full context behind his statement.

“I’m not retired. production team asked if they could use this clip. I told them yes as long as they keep me saying it’s a joke in the clip. Obviously they didn’t listen and got what they wanted. Congrats on getting numbers I guess.”

The footballer’s on-field struggle started in the 2020 and 2022 seasons due to his ACL tears. He himself was facing uncertainty regarding his future when he spoke to Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site a few months ago. The vet said he was dubious about getting cut by the Titans and added that he would have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of continuing his professional career.

Taylor Lewan was cut by the Titans this offseason following a nine-season tenure. The franchise also released their wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock along with him. The OT shared the post on his social media handle to convey his profound love to the Titans fans.

The Michigan product was on a $80 million deal that he signed with the Titans back in 2018. At that time, his deal was the largest contract ever awarded to an offensive lineman in the league. After concluding his journey with the Tennessee Titans, the footballer is yet to find his second destination in the NFL.
