Max Verstappen, often regarded as the ultimate beast of the industry, initially had some doubts regarding the updates to the RB18. However, those worries quickly dissipated the moment he started driving the Red Bull team’s new weapon, the RB19.
Nevertheless, Verstappen encountered challenges in Singapore due to some technical difficulties. However, the Dutchman quickly recovered and bounced back from his performance in the Japanese Grand Prix
Verstappen admits surprise at RB19’s performance
Max Verstappen admitted that RB19’s performance has surprised him, especially since the Singapore Grand Prix. He said “It always felt nice. I thought it had a good balance. But you never know what the other teams have come up with over the winter time – we really expected it to be close to Bahrain,” Verstappen told media, including RacingNews365.”
“We were all positively surprised with how good the car was there. But that’s one track. Of course, when you go to the next tracks you can see, the car has always been quick – especially in the race.”
In the Bahrain race, Max knew that the car was going to deliver a decent performance, however, he did not expect the car’s performance to accelerate that fast, in a short period.
The three times World Champion added, “We always had really good race pace, I think that’s always very promising, and throughout the year we had a lot of great results in tough conditions as well,”.
“It was easy to make a mistake as a team, even if you would have a dominant car. I think for most of the races, we just did an incredible job.”
Max Verstappen notches 13 wins in 2023
Verstappen clinched his third championship title at the Qatar Grand Prix, once again demonstrating his exceptional skills on the race track. This victory marked his third championship win, showcasing his consistency and talent in Formula 1. Verstappen’s victory in the race increased his total number of victories for the year to 13, breaking Michael Schumacher’s previous record. In doing so, he equaled the record of Sebastian Vettel, who also achieved 13 victories in the course of 19 races. Verstappen’s outstanding performance and ability to secure wins consistently throughout the season highlight his position as one of the top drivers in the sport.
Max Verstappen won his 13th race of the season, with four races remaining. With this incredible accomplishment, he became the youngest driver of his generation to win a third championship title. Verstappen’s consistency and dominance in the sport have set a new benchmark for success, and his achievements have cemented his position as a top-tier Formula 1 driver.
Verstappen is the sixth racer since 1950 to win three or more successive F1 points championships, joining Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio, Sebastian Vettel, and Hamilton.
There are still six Grand Prix races remaining for the Dutchman to win to maintain his honor and respect in the industry.
