F1 News: Helmut Marko opens up on Red Bull RB20’s alleged failed crash test: “Ridiculous”

As the 2024 season approaches, teams are intensifying their preparations to work towards supremacy on the grid. Despite Red Bull’s current dominance on the racing circuit, the team is still not letting their guard down.

In recent developments, reports have arisen indicating that the brand new RB20 has failed the very first crash test, raising many questions about the machinery. However, team advisor Helmut Marko has addressed the issue publicly, acknowledging the need for further adjustments.

Helmut Marko denies Red Bull RB20’s alleged failed crash test

According to an unofficial  report from Motorsports.com Italian, the brand new RB20 has failed its very first frontal crash test. Although the news has caused panic among Verstappen’s fans, the Red Bull team has been very calm about the ongoing situation.

The team advisor has been heard to be optimistic about the incident, stating officially that the vehicle has indeed failed the front impact structure dynamic test; however, he also suggested taking the news positively rather than stressing about it. He said, “If we had passed the first crash test, that would be precisely the problem. Then we wouldn’t have done well!”

The crash tests are designed to ensure that each car will be able to withstand any strong impact, including frontal and rear. The tests are performed to ensure a driver’s safety by minimizing an accident’s impact and avoiding any serious damage to both the car and the driver.

Helmut’s words indicated that if Red Bull had passed the test, it would certainly mean they were not utilising their abilities to their fullest. This might create a negative perception for them, considering they currently hold the top position as the most dominant team on the paddock.

Red Bull has re-signed Helmut Marko for three years

Previously, there had been a wide spread of speculation, signifying the team advisor’s dismissal from the Red Bull team for his involvement in the controversy with the Mexican driver, Sergio Perez. Helmut Marko has not only directly engaged in one of 2023’s biggest controversy, but his age also pointed towards his retirement as well. This had led many spectators to assume the departure of Marko upon the conclusion of the 2023 season.

However, recently, the 80-year-old has left everyone in shock by extending his contract with the team for another 3 years. This also means that Marko will be responsible for ensuring Verstappen’s success on the grid until he turns 84 years old.
