Conor McGregor singlehandedly made the UFC popular with his charisma and destructive performances inside the octagon. The former two-division champion has been out of competition since breaking his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Despite his absence from the octagon, his popularity remains high, and he is currently active on social media discussing the political situation in the Republic of Ireland. Some of his tweets were recently investigated by the police concerning the riots that happened in the country.
Conor McGregor claims to be the President of Ireland
Conor McGregor recently made headlines for reasons beyond mixed martial arts. ‘The Notorious’ at first heavily criticized an apparent voting rule in the country that enables non-citizens to vote. In a series of tweets, he even metaphorically called for war, which was later investigated by the police due to the riots that occurred in the country.
McGregor was brash and outspoken against the politicians in the Republic of Ireland, much like he is to his opponents inside the octagon. His outbursts on social media regarding politics even garnered him comparison to the former US President, Donald Trump. Now, he posted a picture of himself with the caption, “Ireland, your President. ☘️❤️”.
The post comes at a time when many have voiced their support for McGregor to lead the nation. Even though the fighter is a newbie in the realm of politics, he has support even outside of the Republic of Ireland. This is evident from the support he received from right-wing activists outside the country.
Mystic Mac is rumored to make his much-awaited comeback at UFC 300 against Michael Chandler, his rival coach at TUF 31. However, former UFC welterweight in a recent interview said that the chances of McGregor coming back at UFC 300 are fairly low.
Fans rally behind Conor McGregor to become next President
Conor McGregor’s recent social media post expressing political aspirations has been well-received by fans on social media. He was already gaining support from fans to become President due to the situation in the country. Now, with his latest post, fans are overjoyed.
“DO IT, NOTHING CAN STOP YOU,” one fan commented, urging the Irishman to become the President. The current President of the country is 82-year-old Michael Daniel Higgins, with Leo Varadkar serving as Taoiseach, the Prime Minister of Ireland. The sentiment against Varadkar and Higgins is negative, which might be one of the reasons for the fans’ support for McGregor.
“MIGA! Make Ireland Great Again,” commented another fan drawing McGregor comparison to former US President Donald Trump. Trump is the proponent of the slogan “MAGA! Make America Great Again.”
The slogan was one of the prime reasons for Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton. The McGregor fan drew the comparison of McGregor to Trump, who is one of the leading anti-establishment figures.
“Take your country back from the globalist elites. 🫡 commented yet another fan who felt that the country was ruled by globalist elites who do not see the trials and tribulations of the natural citizens of the country. The fan felt that McGregor was the man to do the job due to his social media remarks that insinuated it.
