Fans mock Timo Werner after ex-Chelsea flop reveals ambition to win titles at Tottenham: “Wrong club for trophies”

Some transfers don’t just work out; such was Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea from RB Leipzig. Despite joining the Blues for a fortune, the German forward could not replicate the kind of form he displayed in Germany at Chelsea, leading many to believe he wasn’t built for a league as competitive as the Premier League.

Well, Timo Werner is back in the best league in the world, and this time, he’s joined Chelsea’s cross-city rival Tottenham Hotspur. Fans have begun mocking him as Werner claimed he joined Tottenham to win trophies, which is quite an irony considering the North London club haven’t won any major trophy since 2008.

However, the 2021 Champions League winner with Chelsea ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan till the end of the season, with the North London club having the option to make the deal permanent.

Upon the completion of the deal, Timo Werner delivered his first interview, citing the reasons why he joined Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou’s role in convincing him of the North London project.

“First of all, I’m very happy to be here. I’ve joined a very, very big club, and we often played against each other. It doesn’t matter if I was playing for Chelsea or Leipzig, there were always big games to play against Spurs.”

“The manager gave me straight away the feeling that I needed to join a club. For me, I thought straight away that it fits perfectly. When I joined my old club, I said I wanted to be a winner, and I wanted to win titles at the end, and we won the Champions League, so I think it shouldn’t be too bad to say that I’ve come here also to win titles and to win something,” the German forward added.

Fans mock Timo Werner for wanting to win titles at Spurs

Timo Werner’s desire to win titles at Spurs hasn’t gone down well with fans, who believe the striker joined the wrong club in terms of trophies won. Firstly, Tottenham lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer because the England captain felt he was at the point in his career where he could use some trophies in his cabinet, which is something he failed to achieve at Tottenham.

“Wrong club for trophies,” one fan said.

“Even your soul doesn’t believe that statement,” another fan said, pointing out that Werner was just cooking up some sweet words to appear to be a good guy in the media.

While Tottenham have not won any trophies in a while, Timo Werner has proved to be a serial winner during his time at Leipzig and Chelsea. The German forward has a trophy cabinet with a DFB Pokal trophy, one DFL Supercup, one UEFA Champions League trophy, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
