Felipe Massa hopeful to gain Ferrari’s support in battle against Lewis Hamilton following 2008 Championship defeat

There have been numerous instances where a single moment on the grid has become engraved in the memories of fans. For Mercedes, it was the moment Lewis Hamilton secured the championship by claiming victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2008.

While Hamilton’s performance received adoration from millions of fans, it also stirred intense criticism. Notably, Felipe Massa believes he was robbed of the title. Recently, he urged Ferrari to lend support to the ongoing legal action regarding the 2008 F1 Championship.

Felipe Massa expects Ferrari’s support

Massa firmly believes that he was unjustly deprived of the championship title at that time and that the results from the 2008 Singapore GP should be reconsidered, given the controversy surrounding the entire scenario of the Grand Prix.

The Brazilian is currently exploring options to reverse the outcome of the championship after losing to Hamilton by a single point. This follows a statement from former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, indicating his awareness of Renault’s manipulation of the Singapore Grand Prix during the season. However, Bernie chose not to intervene.

At the beginning of the year, Massa filed a lawsuit against the sport and has been seeking aid from the F1 personnel in the paddock.  As he spoke with RacingNews365, he exclaimed how hopeful he was of Ferrari backing him up, as they had shared the same agony in the past.

He said, “I am still expecting to be together and have support because, in the end, we lost the championship together. I love Ferrari, it is part of my heart and I am a big fan and will be all my life for everything [that happened] during my time with the team, with the fans, the opportunities, and the dreams that I had.

“So I definitely expect it to be on my side, because we lost the championship together through the manipulation that happened.”
