Floyd Mayweather Jr., since his retirement from professional boxing, is an avid spectator of the NBA games. Mayweather was recently spotted at the NBA In Season Tournament finals where the Los Angeles Lakers prevailed over the Indian Pacers with an impressive performance from Anthony Davis.
Mayweather’s final professional boxing bout was with then-UFC champion, Conor McGregor. Since then, the undefeated boxer has been on a string of exhibition bouts against influencers like Jake Paul, Deji Olatunjieji, and Don Moore to name a few. This time, however, he was seen beefing with the Pacers Mascot at the In-Season Tournament finals.
Why was Floyd Mayweather beefing with the Pacers mascot?
Floyd Mayweather was ringside at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip to witness Lebron James and company win the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament against the Indiana Pacers. Mayweather, a regular in the NBA audience was seen arguing with an unlikely member of the Pacers, courtside.
It was none other than Mayweather arguing with Boomer, the official mascot of the Indiana Pacers. The argument came to being after a foul was awarded to the Pacers which Mayweather did not agree with. Mayweather was there to support fellow GOAT, Lebron James as the two share a bond.
King James chimed in with a double-double performance of 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists in addition to the monstrous 41 points, 20 rebounds, and 5 assist performance of Anthony Davis. LeBron was awarded the MVP of the tournament for his impressive performance throughout their title run.
This is not the first time boxers had a beef with mascots. Conor McGregor, the last opponent of Floyd Mayweather in professional boxing, had a heated argument with the Miami Heat mascot, Burnie at the last NBA Finals. Mayweather knocked out Burnie with a punch and even landed a shot whilst the Mascot was down. At the same event, McGregor was accused of sexual assault of which the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence.
When is Floyd Mayweather’s next fight?
Floyd Mayweather, retired from professional boxing, has since competed in exhibition boxing bouts 7 times. His latest bout was against John Gotti III, the descendant of the infamous Gambino crime family. The fight ended after the referee stopped the fight after excessive trash-talking.
Scheduled for 8 three-minute rounds, the referee stopped the bout at the opening minute of the sixth round after Gotti and Mayweather were talking more than fighting. Gotti has an identical 5-1 record in both amateur and professional MMA. Moreover, he is 2-0 as a professional boxer.
Gotti and Mayweather will have a rematch of their initial bout at the 2024 Super Bowl week. No official confirmation regarding the time and venue has been announced. It was Mayweather who announced the bout on his social media channels.
Since the Super Bowl week is from 4th February 2024 to 11th February 2024, fans can expect a timeframe for the bout. Mayweather is a big favorite for the bout and rightfully so as he demonstrated his superior skillset in the first fight.
