Following his social media shenanigans, Hornets have allegedly fired Kai Jones ahead of next NBA season

Kai Jones recently expressed his desire to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets on social media. During the summer, in one of his posts, he claimed to be the greatest player in league history, attracting attention. However, engaging in an altercation with a fan was seen as entirely inappropriate.

Despite concerns about his behavior, the young star insisted that he was mentally sound. His actions during the off-season led to the Hornets releasing him at the beginning of training camp, and ultimately, he was waived by the team.

Kai Jones reportedly waived by Hornets

Following Kai Jones‘ recent behavior, several questions were raised following his repeated indecent activities on the internet. He is now reportedly sacked by the Hornets. A post on X by Shams Charania revealed, “The Charlotte Hornets have waived former first-round pick Kai Jones”.

Kai’s continuous posting of peculiar content on social media, such as claiming to be superior to LaMelo Ball of the Hornets, mentioning names like LeBron James and Michael Jordan, who have ownership stakes in the Hornets, and more, likely played a role in his release. The Hornets had already distanced themselves from him before the start of training camp and provided limited explanations for their decision, citing “personal reasons.”

Kai created another controversy when he took to social media to request a trade away from the Hornets with the hashtag GOATLIFE, which is punishable by the NBA for a reported fine of up to $150,000, for a player to publicly express a desire to be traded. Though Kai Jones is yet to be fined for that action, the Hornets have decided to part ways with the controversial player.

Kai Jones’ cryptic post after rumored sacking

Everyone would have anticipated Kai Jones to be remorseful following that he is facing consequences out of his intentional actions because he declared to be perfectly fine. Kai has definitely disappointed everyone who thought so. Kai responded to the news of being sacked by the Hornets in a weird manner tweeting, “I used to pray for times like dis.”

Kai appears to be calm and unbothered about the situation with his response, but there is no clear or easy route back to the league as every team has made their selections. Nevertheless, Kai is a top talent and has shown his capabilities since joining the Hornets in a 2021 draft in Texas through a trade with the New York Knicks.

It will be easy to say he did well for the Hornets last season by averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game. It’s very possible for Kai Jones to have a long basketball career, but he must prove to be a disciplined team player with limited distractions moving forward.
