Guardiola etched his name into the history books as he became the first manager to win the UEFA Super Cup with three separate clubs. The Spaniard led Barcelona to victories in the competition in 2009 and 2011 when they beat Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto, respectively.

Guardiola’s Barca booked a spot in both matches by beating Manchester United in the finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2009 and 2011, with Rio Ferdinand acknowledging that Barca team was the greatest football team he’s ever seen. He also won the competition during his time with Bayern Munich in 2013. The UEFA Super Cup was Guardiola’s first trophy with Bayern as his team beat Chelsea on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Altogether, Pep Guardiola has won the competition a record four times, putting him ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson and on par with Carlo Ancelotti, who has also won four with AC Milan (2) and Real Madrid (2).

Yesterday’s UEFA Super Cup win became Guardiola’s 15th major title at City, making him the club’s most successful manager, a record that will be hard to break.
