Following Raptors HC’s outburst, LeBron James breaks silence on NBA ref’s favoring Lakers: “They fouled and we didn’t”

Lebron James refuted that game officials favored the Lakers in their victory against the Raptors. Toronto Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic chastised officials for their alleged ignorance of the Raptors’ offense, eventually leading to the game being marred by rumors. Sticking true to his nature of sharing his candid opinions, Lebron James denied all such claims of favoritism by the referees and bluntly suggested the reality of the game between the two basketball teams.

The star who is more than crucial for the Lakers previously bashed the team for their underwhelming performances in the 2023 NBA season, where they sit in 10th place in the Western Conference.

LeBron James talks about free throw discrepancy

Speaking on the difference in free throws both teams were awarded, Lebron James suggested that the Lakers played perfectly when it came to the defensive end of the court and the Raptors were careless in their defensive attempts, which led to the Raptors fouling the Lakers on multiple occasions.

The King said, “Ummm, I feel like they fouled and we didn’t.”

Looking at the box score of the game, the free throw differences between the two teams are distinguishable. Through the night, the Raptors were awarded 13 free throws, 23 lesser than their opponent who received 36 invitations to the free throw line.

Anthony Davis, who had a spectacular night, went to the line a game-high 14 times. To put that into context, Davis alone went to the line more than the entire Raptors’ squad.

The Lakers were also awarded 23 free throws in the decisive fourth quarter, which eventually led to the Purple and Gold winning the game 132-131, a scoreline that could’ve been decided purely on the difference in free throws.

However, a closer look at the statistics confirms Lebron James’ statements. The Raptors ended the night with 26 personal fouls, whereas the Lakers had only 16 accounted personal fouls, which may have been the key factor in the free throw discrepancy.

Raptors HC furious with NBA officials

Raptors HC Darko Rajakovic was quite unhappy with the officiating in the Raptors’ game against the Lakers.

Playing at the Lakers’ Crypto Arena, the Raptors barely saw any calls go their way and had to end the game in a 1-point loss. Disheartened by the officials ignorance toward his players, the coach took matters into his own hands and brutally bashed the referees for their abysmal officiating.

In his post-game rant, he suggested that the referees wanted to award the win to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Rajakovic said, “They had to win tonight? If that’s the case, just let us know so we don’t show up for the game. Just give them the win. That was not fair tonight.”

In a game that could’ve gone either way considering the free throw statistics, Rajakovic’s emotional reaction only seemed fair.

What is your opinion on the officiating of the Lakers-Raptors fixture? Who is right? Basketball legend Lebron James or Raptors HC Darko Rajakovic? We are eager to know your opinions on the matter, so feel free to comment below.
