Following speculations of Bill Belichick’s departure, NFL insider discloses Patriot HC’s future destination

The New England Patriots’ start of this season was a clear hint of decline in Bill Belichick’s coaching prowess with which he guided Tom Brady to win six Super Bowls. While Brady-less offense has been appearing as one of the worst offenses of the league, Belichick’s defensive schemes assisted the Patriots in finding solace with just two wins so far this season.

As the head coach has been continuously failing to put forward the desired output, rumors have been swirling regarding Tom Brady’s former coach’s chapter possibly ending with the Patriots.

Bill Belichick’s next landing spot

Pat McAfee made it plain on Tuesday on his show “Pat McAfee” that the Patriots are on the verge of continuing their relationship with their two-decade head coach at the end of the season. ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky added more fuel to the speculation, retorting that he had heard Bill Belichick’s next home has already been determined.

Although Orlovsky quickly clarified that he had only heard about it and per his source the Las Vegas Raiders was the speculated team. Something surely has been developing backstage as Gary Myers’s source also heard the same. But the reporter alleged that his “well-placed sources” think the Patriots’ long-headed coach’s next destination may be the Los Angeles Chargers in the upcoming season.

“One of my well-placed sources believe the Chargers are the favorites for Bill Belichick in 2024: Excellent QB; team ready to win; Belichick likes California and the beach.”

Though the Chargers led by Justin Herbert have been also facing intense competition to top the rivals, they can at least claim themselves as a better team than the Patriots, with a 4-5 record. Dov Kleiman sees it as a good move if the rumored deal happens following the season, letting Bill Belichick add more depth to the Charger’s defensive lineup with his two-decades experience.

The possibility of sacking Bill Belichick was first brought about to light by Athletic reporter Jeff Howe, as according to him the team owner Robert Kraft’s endurance would not last long. The door of the notion was shut down as soon as the head coach’s contract extension details were revealed by the NFL media.

Patriots performance under Bill Belichick this season

The Patriots have lost three straight games since their home win over the Buffalo Bills. It included an ugly 10-6 loss to the Colts on Sunday morning in Germany. With the loss, Bill Belichick’s team touched the milestone of the worst record since 2000.

Prior to these losses, the 71-year-old also reached two unwanted landmarks this season.  The Patriots’ 38–3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 ranks as his worst loss ever. In the following week, misfortune struck him again as the Patriots met a 34–0 loss in Week 5 to the New Orleans Saints, marking Belichick’s worst record at home, per SI.com.

Already, the Pats’ 2-7 record has made them hit rock-bottom of the division. It is safe to say that there is no sign of improvement so far in any of the lineup. Especially since the start of the season, their offense has been struggling much under Mac Jones.

Amid all these, though, Belichick etched his name, entering the elite club with his 300th regular season win, the record might fall short of convincing the aggravated fans and frustrated owner Robert Kraft.
