Following UEFA Super Cup triumph, Bernardo Silva snubs PSG and Barcelona transfer to stay at Manchester City

Bernardo Silva has been a huge part of Pep Guardiola’s Man City squad, with his versatility making him a vital asset for the team. The former Monaco man can play as a winger or a playmaker just behind the striker, pulling the strings from midfield. His versatility helped Manchester City win a treble last season as they became the Champions of Europe for the first time.

As an essential part of Pep’s team, it’s only normal that other teams are watching and would want to cherry-pick the best of the bunch. The Portuguese star has been linked with a move away from Manchester City, with other European and Saudi Arabian clubs lurking and willing to offer a premier fee to Manchester City to tempt one of their most prized assets.

Bernardo Silva reportedly agrees on a new deal with Manchester City

Despite receiving offers from Barcelona, PSG, and Saudi clubs, Bernardo Silva has seemingly committed his future to Manchester City, agreeing on a one-year contract extension with the Manchester club. This is good news for Pep and Manchester City after the club lost a key player to Barcelona at the start of the summer. Ilkay Gundogan joined Barcelona on a free transfer despite pleas from Pep Guardiola to extend his stay with the club.

Before signing the new deal, Bernardo Silva had been mooted as a potential departure to either PSG or Barcelona. According to ESPN, Pep had said in an interview that the club would do everything to keep the midfielder, and his wish has now been granted as Silva looks set to remain at City beyond this summer.

Pep lost Kevin De Bruyne to a hamstring injury in the club’s opening Premier League game of the season and the Belgian may be forced to spend a few months on the sidelines as he recovers. Silva staying put at City will probably be viewed as a massive boost to the team as they prepare to defend their Premier League and Champions League titles.

With the penalty scores tied at 4-4, Nemanja Gudelj missed his decisive spot-kick, leaving Man City’s Kyle Walker to score the winning penalty. This could serve as a boost to City after losing the FA Community Shield to Arsenal two weeks ago.
