Albany School extends their condolences for AJ Simon’s early demise

The Albany football community is mourning the loss of former student-athlete Amitral AJ’ Simon. In an X post, the program honored Simon’s memory, describing him as a tremendous young man and an exceptional teammate during his two-year tenure at the university.

“The UAlbany football program was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Amitral ‘AJ’ Simon this morning. AJ was a tremendous young man and even better teammate throughout his time at UAlbany. He was a role model both on and off the field, serving as a pillar to this program over the last two years,” the statement read.

Head football coach Greg Gattuso also paid tribute to Simon, reminiscing about the joyous moments they shared and the friendship they forged.

Before his untimely demise, Simon had garnered recognition for his outstanding performance on the field. He was honored as a Phil Steele All-CAA first-team selection and earned the prestigious title of FCS Football Central First Team All-American, per People.

His stellar contributions played a pivotal role in Albany’s successful campaign, culminating in their first-ever Coastal Athletic Association title and a memorable semifinal appearance in the 2023 FCS playoffs.
