Former F1 champ Jacques Villeneuve pleads fans to feel ‘happy’ and ‘proud’ on Red Bull ace Max Verstappen’s current dominance

Max Verstappen is heading into the upcoming race weekend at Monza on a 9-race win streak, which is a Formula 1 record he shares with former Red Bull all-star Sebastian Vettel. If Max wins this weekend, he will have broken the record.

Amidst Max’s dominance this season, fans of the sport and critics of Red Bull alike have been heavily debating whether such dominance is healthy for the sport. Amidst such a situation, Jacques Villeneuve recently spoke up in defense of Max.

Jacques Villeneuve defends Max Verstappen

Jacques Villeneuve recently spoke out in defense of Max Verstappen, calling out the hypocrisy of the fans who did not offer the same treatment to Lewis Hamilton during his dominance.

On this matter, Villeneuve stated, “Who cares if it’s good for the sport? He’s amazing. That’s it. You should not stop that. He’s managed to do it better than anybody else.”

He added, “He’s managed to work with his engineer and his team to turn the car into a second skin. When you have that, you just sit in the car and you don’t even think. The car does whatever you want it to.”

He then compared Max to his 2023 teammate, claiming, “That’s why every year Sergio Perez for two or three races, [the thought is that] he can beat Max. But then Max works and gets the car to do what he wants. Then he destroys Perez. And that makes a difference.”

Comparing Max’s situation to how it was for Lewis, he continues, “It’s not the rules that make him the best. He is the best. People should be happy and proud of that. It used to be Lewis and Mercedes [who earned a drivers’ and teams’ title double between 2014 and 2020], and nobody complained. So why didn’t people complain about Lewis, but complain now about Max?”

Max Verstappen breaking F1 records this season

This season, Max Verstappen has been on form throughout. Most recently, he equaled Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive race wins! At Monza, he looks set to break this record if he wins for the 10th time in a row.

Apart from this, the Dutchman is also looking set to break the record for most wins in a season, held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel at 13 race wins. After 13 races, Max is already on 11!

Max is also looking like a strong contender for the biggest championship-winning margin, a record held by Vettel at 155 points. Currently, Max is 138 points ahead of teammate Sergio Perez.
