Former F1 champ Lewis Hamilton dedicated 93rd pole to late Chadwick Boseman in 2020 Belgian GP

Real-life superheroes may lack supernatural powers, but they possess qualities that distinguish them as exceptional individuals. Chadwick Boseman, who passed away on August 28th, 2020, was one such hero, inspiring many African-American pioneers.

Lewis Hamilton, a British driver with a mixed heritage that includes African roots, was deeply influenced by Boseman. Hamilton dedicated his pole position to Chadwick and expressed his sentiments with a heartfelt message on Twitter, personally posting the dedication to the late actor.

Hamilton’s dedication to late Chadwick Boseman

Lewis Hamilton, who grabbed the pole position in the Belgian Grand Prix qualifying, dedicated his achievement to the Hollywood actor, who lost his battle against cancer on August 28, 2020.

The seven-time World Champion secured the top spot for the main race on Sunday by setting a new record with an impressive time of  1:41.252. His Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas, missed the mark by 0.511 seconds to secure second place on the grid. Max Verstappen secured the third spot behind Hamilton by 0.526 seconds.

After securing his sixth spot at Spa-Francorchamps and extending his record to 93 overall, the British driver dedicated his victory to the late Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman, the main character of the Black Panther movie who influenced many global audiences and whose role was celebrated by the African culture, passed away at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer on Saturday.

After the qualifying performance, Hamilton said, “I woke up to the sad news of Chadwick passing away. That news broke me. He was such a shining light. Wakanda Forever. I just wanted to come out today and drive to perfection.”

How many career poles does Hamilton have?

Lewis Hamilton has completed a milestone in his Formula One career with a total of 104 pole positions, marking him as the driver with the most poles in the history of the sport. He surpassed Michael Schumacher’s previous record of 68 pole positions during the 2017 Italian Grand Prix weekend.

However, Mercedes had a significant drop in their delivery of performances as they failed to adapt to the rule and regulation changes in the 2022 season, and as a result, they no longer had the fastest car on the grid. That privilege went to the Red Bull team, as they finally became successful in catching up with the team with Verstappen’s mind-blowing skills. Nonetheless, Hamilton is confident of building a competing car against Red Bull in 2024 and hence defeating them in the upcoming season,

In 2023, Hamilton grabbed his first pole position in 33 races at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July.
