Cristiano Ronaldo is enjoying an incredible campaign with Al-Nassr. He finished last year as the highest goal scorer for both his club and country, subsequently winning three accolades recently. His teammates think highly of him as well, as they recently acknowledge his GOAT status with a cake.
The never-ending GOAT debate has once again flared up. In a recent inteview, one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammates at Manchester United shockingly snubbed him in the debate, preferring his arch rival over his teammate.
Former teammate snubs Ronaldo in GOAT conversation
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is hailed as the GOAT by Red Devil fans and serves as a club icon at Old Trafford, attributed to the unparalleled legacy he crafted with Manchester United. His tenure at the club under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson is remembered as an iconic chapter.
However, surprisingly, Scott McTominay, midfielder for Manchester United and Scotland, has surprised fans and the soccer fraternity by snubbing his former Red Devils teammate and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo when asked about his choice for the GOAT. When asked by GOAL about who he thought was the GOAT, he replied, “Messi.”
McTominay has been with the club since 2002, when he joined the academy, rising through the ranks and dedicating his entire club career to Old Trafford, as he is also a devoted supporter of the club. The Scottish international had also played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo during the latter’s second stint at the club. Surprisingly, his intriguing choice doesn’t necessarily align with the sentiments of the rest of the fanbase.Â
Ronaldo throws shades on awards won by Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo has raised questions about the diminishing credibility of the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Best Awards. This comes after both honors were given to Lionel Messi under questionable circumstances, particularly the recent FIFA Best Player award of 2023, which went to Messi ahead of treble-winning striker Erling Haaland.
While speaking to Record, the Al-Nassr skipper expressed his views, stating, “Ballon d’Or and The Best are losing credibility. Numbers are reality. We have to analyze the entire season. It’s not to say that Messi didn’t deserve the award, or Haaland or even Mbappe. I simply no longer believe in these awards.”
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and two-time FIFA Best titleholder, has raised questions about the credibility of the accolade. His remarks indirectly allude to the current title holder, Messi.
