Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh fulfilled a promise he made to his team by getting a tattoo to commemorate their undefeated season and national championship victory. Harbaugh, known for his commitment to his word, had pledged to get the tattoo if his team achieved a perfect 15-0 record. The Wolverines did it after defeating the Washington Huskies in the title game and after the win, he declared his eagerness to fulfill his words.
“I said that I would get a tattoo. I have no ink on my body. No tattoos anywhere, but I did say that to our players. I said if we go 15-0, I’m getting a tattoo. It’s 15-0. I’m going to put it on my shoulder,” he said after the win over the Huskies.
Though he is now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, the 62-year-old coach remained true to his promise. During a visit to Ann Arbor for Michigan’s 2023 national championship ring ceremony, he seized the opportunity to honor his team’s achievement by getting the tattoo.
He got the tattoo on the right side of his arm, featuring the iconic Michigan ‘M’ emblem with the inscription ’15-0′ underneath. His decision to get the tattoo was met with admiration from his former players, including standout cornerback Mike Sainristil, who took to social media to share their thoughts on the coach’s dedication to his word. The tattoo was inked by Michigan-based tattoo artist Stephen Bateman.
Jim Harbaugh’s success to stardom with Michigan Wolverines
Under Jim Harbaugh’s leadership, the Michigan Wolverines experienced a historic turnaround, especially their rivalry against the Ohio State Buckeyes. When Harbaugh assumed the role of head coach in 2015, Michigan had suffered nine losses in their last ten games against Ohio State. The losing streak persisted for the initial five years of his tenure. Nevertheless, in 2021, Harbaugh fulfilled his promise to reverse the trend.
Over the next two seasons, he guided the Wolverines to back-to-back victories against Ohio State. This triumph culminated in a historic achievement for Michigan football, as they secured their first 15-0 record in Big Ten Conference history.
Harbaugh’s impact extended beyond the rivalry game. Under his leadership, Michigan attained significant success, clinching multiple titles and championships. Their recent victory in “The Game” propelled them to a national championship, marking their first title since 1997. In addition to the national championship, Michigan also secured the Big Ten title, the Big Ten East division championship, and emerged as Rose Bowl champions.
The proud Michigan head coach then departed from Michigan to the Chargers with an impressive career record of 86-25.
