Former NFL star Michael Irvin faces criminal investigation amid misconduct allegations

Over the years, the NFL has seen a lot of legends and former players get embroiled in scandals of various sorts, often resulting in many of them visiting the state penitentiaries or at the very least, making a few visits to the judge’s gavel.

One of those players who has made that visit on a number of occasions in the past is NFL legend and Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin, who has now found himself to be a part of another scandal regarding sexual misconduct. Let’s find out more about it.

Michael Irvin under investigation for alleged misconduct

Dallas Cowboys legend and one of the best wide receivers to ever grace the game, Irvin, has come under fire again, years after hanging up his boots. Now working as a sports broadcaster for ESPN, Michael Irvin has made a name for himself as someone with a rational opinion about everything that goes on in the NFL world.

However, the allegations that have come up against him paint a picture that is far from rational and has resulted in a lot of conflicting opinions from either side of the spectrum. According to Yahoo, the police department of Allen, Texas, isn’t ready to release any details about the case as of yet.

“There has been an allegation, but we are not prepared to release any details at this time due to our investigation being in its very early stages,” said Allen PD Public Information Officer Jonathan Maness.

However, Levi McCathern, Irvin’s attorney, has come out and vehemently denied these allegations, saying that the player has done nothing “wrong or inappropriate.” McCathern added that there’s “absolutely no truth” to the allegation and that the situation “saddens me.”

Michael Irvin once arrested for cocaine possession

During his playing days, Irvin was considered one of the bad boys of the game, always getting embroiled in scandals on and off the field. However, he more than made up for all this trouble with his blistering performances on the field for the Dallas Cowboys.

In 1996, Irvin was arrested after he was found in possession of cocaine by the Denton County authorities. Howard Shapiro, Irvin’s attorney, said “I would say that’s the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard,” Via ESPN “If you can tell me that you believe that Michael Irvin deserves to go to the penitentiary for what you know about this case, then my whole system of what’s right or wrong is out of whack.”
