Aljamain Sterling commented on the recent feud between UFC lightweights Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan during the fight week of UFC Austin. Sterling, who lost his bantamweight title at UFC 292, recently made a big announcement of moving up to featherweight to potentially fight former champion Max Holloway.
Although Arman and Green were not scheduled to fight each other, their apparent actions suggested otherwise. Green made remarks towards Tsarukyan’s fight style, prompting the Armenian to confront him. Tsarukyan then shoved Green, who retaliated by punching one of Tsarukyan’s teammates shortly after.
Aljamain Sterling talks on Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan feud
Aljamain Sterling is no stranger to rivalries within the UFC, as evident from his confrontations with Petr Yan, Sean O’Malley, Henry Cejudo, and TJ Dillashaw. However, in those cases, the feuds were part of the job, and the fighters had respect for one another. This was not the case for Arman Tsarukyan and Bobby Green.
The feud seemingly began with an interview where Green labeled Tsarukyan’s fighting style as ‘boring’. However, Sterling was very much surprised by it. “Literally nothing. Shit is very weird IMHO. How is it disrespect that someone in your weight class called you boring? Especially, if you’re not? Makes no sense. That was all unnecessary,” tweeted Sterling regarding the matter.
Apparently, Aljamain Sterling does not think that the comment warranted a physical confrontation. After all, Aljamain was degraded by his opponents when they were scheduled but everybody except Sean O’Malley failed to defeat “The Funkmaster.”
Some claim that the way Green degraded Tsarukyan, who is one of the most exciting and up-and-coming fighters, was not necessary. Nevertheless, it was Tsarukyan who got the last laugh as he defeated Beneil Dariush in the main event, calling for a shot at the lightweight title. On the other hand, Bobby Green was knocked out cold by Jalin Turner in a fight that saw referee Kerry Hatley call a late stoppage.
Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan feud explained
Bobby Green was originally scheduled to fight Dan Hooker in a five-round co-main event of UFC Austin which was headlined by Arman Tsarukyan and Beneil Dariush. Jalin Turner replaced Dan Hooker on short notice as Hooker withdrew after he aggravated an injury against Turner at UFC 290.
Interestingly, Green and Tsarukyan became heated rivals at UFC Austin. In one of the interviews leading up to the event, Green remarked that Tsarukyan was a ‘boring fighter.’ Green is known for labeling fighters with wrestling prowess as boring. It was the same remark he made against Islam Makhachev when the duo fought before the Russian became champion.
However, Tsarukyan was greatly angered by the statement made by the fellow lightweight. He confronted Green, who was seated in the hallway of the Athlete Hotel. The two came face to face and extremely close, leading Green to slightly push Tsarukyan back, to which the Armenian responded with a shove on the neck.
Green was alone when the incident happened whereas Tsarukyan was with his crew. It did not take Green to retaliate as he called his team and confronted Tsarukyan’s crew at the lobby of the Athlete Hotel where “King” even landed a punch on somebody. The rivalry seems to be still alive as Tsarukya said that he was happy to see Green knocked out cold by Turner.
