Lakers star LeBron James just turned 39 years old and despite being at an age where most professional athletes decide to hang up their boots and call it a day, Bron is still going strong and is putting on elite-level performances every week.
The future Hall of Famer received a pretty disappointing gift from the NBA officials in his match against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He took to social media to express his displeasure and call out the misjudged call adding to the controversy.
LeBron James fumes on social media over miscalled three-pointer
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in an exciting match on Saturday. The Lakers have faced difficulties in winning regular season games following their successful run in the In-Season Tournament. LeBron James, their star player, is giving his all alongside his teammate Anthony Davis to shift the momentum in their team’s favor. However, despite their efforts, the team fell short against the Wolves, who managed to secure a narrow victory over the Purple and Gold with a final score of 106-108.
The Lakers’ record of 17-16 is currently not ideal. James displayed a noticeable level of frustration on the court following the loss. In the second half of the game, James made a significant three-point shot. However, the referees ruled it as a two-pointer because James’ toe was inside the three-point perimeter. Regrettably, despite having access to technology and advanced methods, the officials failed to notice that James’ toe was clearly outside the three-point line. As a result, the shot should have been counted as a three-pointer.
The wrong decision killed the possibility of overtime and a potential win for the Lakers on Bron’s birthday. This had Bron raging as he vented his displeasure on social media. He posted a photo of his feet while taking the shot on Instagram and accompanied it with a sarcastic caption. He wrote, “Sooooooooooooooo!!!!! WTF. Helluva Happy Bday gift to me.” In a post-game interview, James also discussed the referees’ choice and how he felt about it.
LeBron brings back iconic celebrations during game against T-wolves
The match between the Wolves and Lakers was a neck-to-neck one where both teams gave their best. The results could have been different if the three-pointer by LeBron James had been counted. The Lakers were unable to seize the victory after coming very close as no one else other than LeBron and AD was able to score in double digits, revealing the lack of offensive power and putting question on Darwin Ham’s decision to not play Austin Reaves as a starter regularly.
James pulled out an iconic celebration on his birthday game after scoring. He went to the sidelines and got a hold of the chalk box. He put some chalk dust in his hand and threw the powder in the air following it up with some hand signs. Bron used to do this chalk toss ritual early in his career when he was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers but after he joined the Lakers the ritual faded away.
