Premier League is celebrated as one of the most popular and widely followed sporting league, showcasing some of the biggest clubs. The thrilling English Premier League never disappoints in entertaining the fans. Former players and managers, engaged in off-field rivalries and embroiled in a spat, always add to the excitement.
Manchester United and Liverpool icons Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have recently engaged in friendly banter, with Neville taking a cheeky jab at his fellow Sky Sports colleague after he clapped back at Pep Guardiola following the Manchester City manager’s comments.
Gary Neville roasts Jamie Carragher
Former Manchester United legendary defender Gary Neville enjoyed a glorious playing career with the Red Devils, winning numerous titles and accolades. Post-retirement, Neville transitioned into a commentator, panelist, and pundit, working with Sky Sports alongside his fellow Liverpool star, Jamie Carragher.
Neville never hesitates to voice his take, openly admitting to being ‘bored’ of watching Manchester United lately. In one of his recent TikTok videos, he offered his verdict on the ongoing war of words between Carragher and Guardiola.
Gary Neville said, “We’ll start the course with the fact that the old master Pep has had a go at me and Carra for not winning four in a row – sorry Pep, apologies for that – and my friend James from Liverpool for not participating in Premier League title celebrations at all during his career, which did make me chuckle slightly.”
“But the dirty little scouse dog Carragher had to go back at Pep, didn’t he? He couldn’t rise above it and see it as a compliment.”
“Carra, I reckon you’d have won a Premier League title, mate if you hadn’t kept kicking the ball into the back of your net! That would’ve been a massive help to your team!”, he added, joking about own-goal records as Jamie stands second on the all-time list of own-goal scorers.
Pep Guardiola, Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville feud explained
The feud between the manager and former stars started when Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola took a sly dig at Sky Sports pundits Neville, Carragher, and Micah Richards for criticizing his side in a press conference, especially aiming at Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher for not winning the Premier League title.
These words didn’t sit well with Carragher, prompting him to clap back at the Spanish manager in a tweet. He drew attention to the City being under investigation for 115 alleged violations of FFP rules.
Now, Gary Neville’s response to the ongoing spat has added further fuel to it. Nonetheless, Guardiola aims to avoid the controversy and instead focuses on the challenge of steering his team back to form, following their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday.
