Geno Smith benched after crushing hit by Rams’ Aaron Donald in Seahawks clash

Entering Sunday’s game with a 6-3 record, behind the Seattle Seahawks’ all-dominating wins, their quarterback Geno Smith’s contribution knew no bounds. Unfortunately, in a run to grasp the No. 1 seed from the San Francisco 49ers, topping with a 7-3 record, the Seahawks fall short of their divisional rival Los Angeles Rams.

The night came as a major blow for the Seahawk’s offense. After losing their running back Kenneth Walker III due to an oblique injury, their quarterback had to miss some snaps during the play before witnessing a 17-16 loss to the Rams.

Geno Smith sidelined by Aaron Donald hit

In the third quarter of the Rams vs. Seahawks game, Geno Smith was seen attempting to pass as Rams defensive end Aaron Donald pushed through the line of scrimmage. Shortly after, Smith took a heavy blow from Donald that injured his elbow.

Smith was seriously wounded by Donald’s blow, and he was later observed throwing passes on the sidelines while waving his hand in an attempt to ease the agony. Before taking the player out of the action, the blue medic crew checked him.

Following the game, Smith’s injury was reported by head coach Pete Carroll “as a bruise on his triceps or back of the elbow that swelled up”, per NFL.com. The quarterback passed his reigning era to Drew Lock before being declared uncertain to return owing to an elbow ailment.

It was not the first time Donald targeted Smith. In the Rams vs. Seahawks game in Week 1, the Rams player showed unsportsmanlike behavior towards the Seahawks player, leading him to digest a hefty fine.

However,  the Seahawks themselves have a Donald version in their defensive line. While Smith was attacked by Donald, his teammate DK Metcalf took the responsibility to respond in favor of their team, providing a cheap shot at Ahkello Witherspoon

Smith returns from an elbow injury

In Week 4, Geno Smith had to leave the field in the middle of the play, yet he could join the team shortly before leading his team in a stunning 3-24 win over the New York Giants. Fortunately, the quarterback was able to take his spot again during his team’s play in Week 11 to have a storybook conclusion to Sunday’s game with 1:31 left.

Smith returned to the game for the last drive. In five plays, he promptly moved his team within field goal range. He displayed perfect foot placement and demonstrated no trouble using his throwing elbow.

Nevertheless,  he entered the game when there was still a chance of winning. Even though Jason Myers’ 55-yard field goal attempt failed, the Rams closed the night with another victory over the Seahawks this season.

The Seahawks are set to meet their divisional rival, the San Francisco 49ers in their upcoming week. Do you think their dream of topping in the division will come true in Week 12? Tell us in the comments section.
