Gervonta Davis and controversies are now almost synonymous. Davis, who has been inactive with his boxing since April 2023, found himself being active with controversies. Despite being undefeated in professional boxing, Davis hasn’t shown much interest in fighting regular fights since May 2022.
Though it can’t be ignored, WBA (regular) lightweight title holders have been surrounded by lots of controversies. A few days ago, Gervonta Davis decided to change his religion to Islam in the hope of not facing any other trouble anymore.
Gervonta Davis sparks a social media uproar with a ‘haram’ jibe at a fan
With religion, Gervonta Davis has also changed his name to Abdul Wahid, though his legal name stays the same. But after changing the religion, Davis must have thought that he may have control of his thoughts and will be dominant in his fight. But Gervonta recently interacted with his fans, which may have provoked him to the point where, in Islam, it is called “Haram” performing such acts.
One of the fans tweeted, “I need to take my oldest nieces and nephews out for drinks,” after addressing Davis as the only competitor in the regular lightweight division after he chose to vacate his WBA lightweight championship title.
After that, Adbul Wahid was found stalking the fan’s ID and then replied to his comment with the tweet, “Nah, I have a better idea. Let me take her to the fight. I’ll s*ut her out after.“
Once fans got to know about his jibe, they didn’t like recently converted Gervonta Davis making “haram”-categorized comments.
Boxing fans slam Gervonta Davis for his ‘haram’ taunt toward fans
“Tank” is now under the radar of fans. They didn’t like the way Gervonta Davis, even after converting his religion to Islam, is making such disgraceful comments. “Haram” is a term in Islam that denotes evil deeds that are done to hurt another human by any means. Knowing the facts about this term, they flurried the comments with rage.
One fan took a dig at the new name of Davis, calling it “that wasn’t very Abdul Wahid of him.”
Another fan asked about his recent conversion to Islam, “Didn’t he just convert to ISl… NVM?”
“Abdul became Muslim for attention”, was one of the fan’s comments when he addressed the disgraceful comment of the undefeated boxer.
Last but not least, a fan used the phrase “not all Muslims are perfect,” mentioning that it didn’t take a week for “Tank” to prove it. One of the fans’ comments was, “They’ll say not all Muslims are perfect. Dude didn’t last a week.”
Despite their conversion to Islam, Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney are both regularly involved in heated social media brawls. Davis and Haney were also recently involved in an altercation when Haney’s coach and father, Bill Haney, started to involve himself in this rivalry. Needless to say, regular verbal spats are being witnessed from both undefeated fighters’ social media accounts.
