Giants reportedly boost offensive line with signing of Justin Pugh to practice squad

The New York Giants are having a poor season as of now and their inability to secure consistent scoring opportunities and move the ball effectively down the field has become a major concern for the fans. More precisely, the team has struggled to find its offensive rhythm, and they have also lost two key offensive players to injuries in week 4.

With heavy pressure to address these offensive issues, the Giants are still trying to salvage their season, and keeping those goals in mind, they are trying to improve the line by enrolling Justin Pugh, a former Big Blue star, in their roster.

Veteran lineman Justin Pugh returns to the Giants

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL, the Giants are eyeing to bolster their offense by signing Pugh to their practice squad. The earlier selected him out of Syracuse with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and stayed with the franchise till the 2017 season.

The 11th-year veteran joined the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent in 2018 and had been with the franchise until he tore his ACL in Week Six last season. He has made 56 starts for the Cardinals after.

The 6-foot-5 and 311 pounds earlier showcased interest in rejoining Big Blue this summer and worked out for the franchise after their Week 2 game in Arizona. He can be an outstanding addition to the O-line as he allowed 232 pressures and 24 sacks in 4,720 pass-blocking snaps. Especially when the Giants lost John Michael Schmitz due to a shoulder injury, and Shane Lemieux to an abductor injury, Pugh can play a crucial role in lifting them up.

Giants suffer third loss in last four games

Big Blue started their regular season with an embarrassing 0-40 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, albeit they bounced back in week 2 by securing a 31-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and fans had high hopes thinking the winning streak was going to stretch further. However, their hope proved to be a daydream as the team again got embroiled in a losing circle.

The Giants had to digest a 12-30 loss from the San Francisco 49ers, and most recently, a 3-24 defeat from the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. In the week 4 match at MetLife Stadium, the team’s offense gave up 11 sacks, and their quarterback Daniel Jones turned it over thrice.

In two home games, the Giants fans have witnessed their team get outscored 64-3, and they seemed fed up with this terrible performance as they headed to the exits for the back-to-back home games. Even the team’s head coach Brian Daboll said after the game that he would be upset too if he were a fan.
