Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur knowing his ambitions were bigger than the club’s, and rightly so. Prior to his move to Bayern Munich, Harry Kane had only spent his senior career playing for Tottenham, although he went on loan to a few low-tier English clubs when he was much younger.
Kane developed into one of the best goalscorers in the world, becoming Tottenham’s record goalscorer in the process. In the midst of a record-breaking debut season at Bayern Munich, the former Tottenham man has now revealed his top choice for an ideal teammate, and his choice is not surprising.
The one player Harry Kane wished to play alongside
Harry Kane has had the privilege to play with some of the best players in the game. From Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen at Tottenham to Wayne Rooney and Jordan Henderson at England, the English captain has played alongside quality players, so he understands the importance of having quality players around him.
Even at his new club Bayern Munich, he’s playing alongside players like Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Jamal Musiala – the perfect mix of freshness of legs and experience, so it’s no surprise he’s already scored 17 league goals in 11 games this season.
As an experienced player himself, Harry Kane knows a thing or two about being surrounded by quality players, and the in-form Bayern striker has named Lionel Messi as the player he would have loved to play alongside. “I’d love to play with Messi. One of the greatest players to ever play our game. I’m sure he’d be able to give me a few assists,” Kane told ESPN.
While Kane chose Messi as his ideal teammate, he has huge respect for Cristiano Ronaldo and recently revealed he’d love to achieve the kind of longevity players like Ronaldo and Messi have been able to achieve in their respective careers.
“I think what they’ve done, they are as good in their 30s as they were in their 20s. Me just turning 30 now, it obviously gives me excitement to know if I keep my body in good shape, and I keep my mentality right, I could be playing at the highest level for as long as I want to do it,” he explained.
Kane sets a new Bundesliga record with 17 goals in 11 matches
Bayern Munich knew the kind of player they were getting when they forked out a huge sum to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the last transfer window. The club needed a recognized striker after a bad investment in Sadio Mane didn’t work out, and the Senegalese striker was forced out of the club after just one season in Germany.
Harry Kane has enjoyed a bright start to his Bayern Munich career, breaking record after record. The Englishman scored a brace in Bayern’s recent Bundesliga game last weekend, taking his tally for the season to 17 goals in 11 games for the Bavarians.
This broke last season’s overall tally of 16 goals by Christopher Nkunku, which means Kane still has more time to set a personal best for himself. His 17 goals in 11 games means no player has scored more goals after 11 games until Harry Kane did it last weekend.
Manager Thomas Tuchel has hailed Harry Kane as “world-class” on several occasions this season, and the former Tottenham man continues to show why he is one of the deadliest forwards in the game.
Can Harry Kane score more than 40 goals across all competitions this season?
