Harry Maguire’s nightmare stint at Old Trafford looks set to be over after Manchester United reportedly agreed to West Ham’s £30M offer

Harry Maguire has been the subject of many criticisms at Manchester United. His family once even received a bomb threat from extreme Manchester United supporters for his alleged poor performance.

But now, it seems the 30-year-old English defender is finally approaching the end of his career at Manchester United, as the club welcomes a £30 million bid from West Ham United for his transfer.

West Ham reportedly submit a £30M bid for Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has not fared very well at Old Trafford. The Manchester United defender has been an easy target for critics and pundits for a while now. The 30-year-old English International found a lot of favour with the previous United manager.  Maguire was the captain under Ole Gunnar Solksjear, and he would indeed start most games because of Ole’s trust in him.

The English defender has now run out of favour with the new manager, Erik Ten Hag, despite all his desperate attempts to revive his career and return to the starting line-up. Harry Maguire lost his spot to Lisandro Martinez, who came from Ajax last summer.

On his arrival, the 25-year-old Argentine was criticized a lot for his height, and many were doubtful of a place for him over Maguire in the starting line-up. However, Lisandro Martinez has dethroned Maguire since his arrival and cemented his position in the starting line-up.

Harry Maguire

It was originally unclear to many what Erik Ten Hag planned about Harry Maguire’s departure. Manchester United had already stated they would not force the player out as he was still ‘an important player’ for the team. Shortly after, he was unceremoniously stripped of his captaincy. The Dutch manager said:

“I think everyone can understand that for a player, it’s a disappointment, but it can work out very well for the team and for Harry. He’s an important player, we need four center-backs minimum you saw last season we played so many games, and we are really pleased to have Harry in our squad.”

But now it appears that the club and the manager’s intentions are clear about Harry Maguire’s future at United as they have an agreement in principle with West Ham United for the £30 million transfer of Harry Maguire.

After cashing in £105 million for Declan Rice, Westham has made a major swoop for Maguire and McTominay. The Hammers made this £30 million bid for Maguire on Monday, and United has already agreed on a deal in principle. According to Mirror, Westham United now awaits the greenlight from Manchester United to approach the player to discuss personal terms.

Harry Maguire’s disaster class at Manchester United

Harry Maguire has attracted a lot of criticism at Manchester United. While some of those criticisms were totally extreme, others were well-directed. Maguire’s family once received bomb threats under Ole due to his poor performance- this is clearly extreme.

Upon taking over, Erik Ten Had expressed that Harry Maguire would retain his captaincy; “Harry Maguire is the captain,” he said. “I have to get to know all the players, but he’s an established captain and achieved a lot of success.”

However, after the manager believed he had given Maguire enough opportunities to redeem his career at United, he fell short. Ten Hag strips him of his captaincy and names Bruno Fernandes as captain instead.

Maguire obviously disappointed by the manager’s decision intended to push through and reclaim his starting position, but now Manchester United welcomes an offer from Westham.

On his captaincy, Maguire says, “He outlined his reasons to me, and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.”

Harry Maguire

It appears Harry Maguire’s stint at Manchester United is finally approaching an end, but despite their fair offer, West Ham United still has to wait for the Red Devil’s green light to proceed into personal terms discussions with the player representatives.
