Helmut Marko is known to aggressively defend his champion drivers with strong words for the opposition and equally remarkable praises for his drivers. It will be hard to believe but, at the same time, a testament to the driver’s skill if Helmut Marko complements them and they are on opposing teams.
Max Verstappen has mesmerized the entire Formula 1 world with his third world championship, and at this moment, Helmut Marko answered a critical question about who can compete on a level similar to Max Verstappen if given the chance.
While comparing Max Verstappen to F1 legend Ayrton Senna, Helmut mentioned, “Senna’s team-mates also all struggled, Gerhard Berger can sing a song about that,” said Marko. “But he sought challenges. Max is a different story in his complexity. I can only think of older gentlemen like Alonso or Hamilton who could compete alongside him.”
Fernando Alonso who has been considered an all time favorite of the sport is a surprising addition because one might think that after all this time he may not be able to join a championship battle. This the case with Marko who knows Alonso’s dangerous potential.
Max Verstappen secures his third F1 World Championship title at Qatar GP
The Qatar GP was the final straw in the evitable gala of celebrations for Max Verstappen. With a massive lead over his closest competitor and teammate Sergio Perez it was unanimously thought that the championship will fall into the hands of Max Verstappen.
Max only needed a total of three points to win his 3rd title from the sprint race, i.e., only a 6th position. But, in typical Super Max fashion he did it with a podium finish and later on a fantastic race win in the Qatar GP.
