The Dallas Cowboys’ Sam Williams continues to get involved in legal dramas in his still relatively short NFL career. After being slapped with suspension at the University of Mississippi following an arrest on sexual battery in 2020, he was projected to have a fresh start in his career. Jerry Jones’ team selected him in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft, albeit he could not utilize the new opportunity.
Sam played in 15 games while recording one forced fumble in 2022 also appearing in the Cowboys’ preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Amid that, he once again got involved in a controversy, and the team’s GM raised eyebrows by providing a surprising take on the defensive player’s recent incident.
Jerry Jones reacts to Sam Williams’ arrest
Following Williams’ arrest news, Jones ensured reporters on Wednesday that he had clear knowledge about the incident and added he doesn’t anticipate the defensive end missing any playtime on the field this season due to the legal battles.
“I don’t anticipate this impacting his time on the field. And I do have all the details. There are some lessons to be learned there for everybody.”
The Dallas owner didn’t take a dig at the young star as well, instead, jokingly stated how the footballer is maturing as he was driving slower than his last time’s incident, per The Athletic‘s Jon Machota.
“First of all, I’m seeing that he is, which is more often the case than not, this sounds a little hollow, but he is maturing. And he is. What was he going 66 miles per hour [when he was arrested this year]? So, he’s 34 miles an hour less this year. 98 to 66, that’s improvement. We’ll keep working. We’ll get it down.”

Despite not getting the chance to appear on the field frequently, the second-year veteran led the Dallas team with seven tackles for loss last year along with four sacks and 20 quarterback pressures.
Cowboys’ Sam Williams arrested on drug and weapon charges
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Sam was arrested on Sunday by Frisco police in Texas due to the allegations of carrying an unlawful weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
The source said the drug was marijuana, albeit the medical use of this drug is legal under Texas law given the circumstances of people having seizure disorders, epilepsy, and some other conditions. However, recreational marijuana products with THC levels of more than 0.3% are illegal.

The controlled substance charge is regarded as a low-level state felony and the unlawful carrying of the weapon is categorized as a misdemeanor, per Frisco police. The 24-year-old star also got embroiled in a legal battle this past January as he was allegedly driving 98 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone before getting involved in a fierce two-car accident.
The Cowboys team is already aware of the incident, albeit they didn’t agree to comment through a spokesman. Nevertheless, the current arrest may cost Williams heavy fines or potential suspensions as it might be categorized as a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
